Gran Torino is a fascinating film which projects racial prejudice and celebrates the journey in overcoming racism through the development of a personal relationship Gran Torino embodies racial slandering, stereo typing, and discrimination to a high degree and unfolds into a beautiful picture of friendship, true family values, and retaliation at its finest. Racism is an obstacle for potential relationships. This film is a prime example of how race sometimes gets in the way of friendships. Clint Eastwood plays a war veteran who appears to have been forced into racism after serving in the war. Walt was transformed from a racist, cold man, into a nurturing protective father like figure to Tao. Throughout the film, Walt assessed his life and his immediate family. He noticed the lack of compassion in his family and the amount of disrespect imbedded in his grandchildren. Walt observed the courteous behaviour of Tao and his sister Sue and began to look past their race. He enjoyed their company. He began to invest into Taos future and in the end, he cared deeply for these two once insignificant Asian adolescence teenagers. Walt allowed racism to control his life and his stubborn mind to dictate his beliefs. It wasn’t until race was erased, that Walt let his guard down. Gran Torino displayed racism at its prime and showcased the blinding of one’s eyes through the thickening of one’s heart. As we see in this film Walt gained companionship through Tao after he lost his wife and Tao gained protection he needed from a dangerous gang. They both gained a friendship. Hopefully this film can influence the lives of some who may carry any slight racial prejudice and realize not to judge anyone based on what they look like, but for who they …show more content…

However it is shown throughout the film even the most stubborn of people can change and create friendships and sacrifice things for those whom they were once discouraging
