Author, Tim O’Brien’s, complex and intriguing short story, “The Things They Carried” follows a group of young men on their mission through parts of Vietnam during the Vietnam War. He strings together an emotional and realistic look at the effects of war by giving life to the inanimate objects each man carries on him. They paint the picture of each individual, which causes readers to connect to his characters easily. O’Brien is an American fiction author best known for his semi-autobiographical stories that are often inspired by his own personal experiences of his time at war in Vietnam.
