This negativity can spread and influence other children to dislike school as well; therefore they may not try or function to their potential. The focus of school should be to educate children in a manner and environment which supports and values them as people (Vann 33).
Parents can be influential for their children, but it would be very biased because they control what the child is learning. Parents who do not allow their children to learn the same curriculum that public school attending children are learning are sheltering them, in a way; prohibiting them from learning the things that public school will teach them. “Improving students' relationships with teachers has important, positive and long-lasting implications for both students' academic and social development.” (Rimm-Kaufman). The principles of this nation are based on competition, whether that is something we like about our schools or not. There needs to be something to differentiate students based on ablility and work ethic. Yes, a skilled teacher should be able to attract student’s interest in a subject without the threat of a grade looming, but isn’t there something special about that perfect grade for a job well done? Even a devoted student may find him or herself willing to let assignments slide if there are no consequences for their actions. Ultimately I feel that the problem within schools is not that there are tests; it is just the way that these tests are formatted.
Not only the students are empowered and are encourage sharing things about themselves and learning new things but teachers are also meant to do these things (21). This is a barrier because if students and teachers are not willing to learn and grow democratic citizens cannot be created. I think school district need to do a better job at training school leaders get the proper training and use teacher evaluations to benefit both the teachers and students. Teacher evaluations are very important. Most of the time, they have a negative feeling attached to them. Some teachers view evaluations as a way of them getting written up for what they are not doing and not as a way of growing and improving to help them teach their students. This also depends on how the principals frame and do teacher evaluations.
The extreme pressure on students to get perfect grades so that they will be accepted into a college has diminished the concept of actually learning and has left the art of “finagling the system” in order to succeed in its place (Palmer, 2005). There are many ways that should be implemented in order to reduce the stress on students so that they can thrive because, withoutthem, the school systems will only be creating generations of stressed out, materialistic, and miseducated students (Palmer, 2005). There are multiple causes when it comes to stressed out students. First consider where the pressure is coming from for students to get good grades. Parents and teachers tend to be the main suspects.
Although generally the focus of critical pedagogy is to liberate oppressed students, which seems to not be present at this elite private school, it is important to bring awareness to these issues and educate all students on social inequality. It will prove beneficial to the students, as they will grow up with a better understanding of the world and not just the small percent that they live in at a higher class. The assistance of educational centers to student learning always depends on the Effort and quality of teachers and administrators, But the way the school is set sometimes blunt or wear down educators’ good intentions and actually prevent the use of effective practices. This is caused by poor leadership qualities. Sadly, the one item holding back the high quality of our education system is the very thing that could also improve the education system. Teachers. Good teachers should be in every school, and should be at the core of every school.
Schooling is the action of training or educating someone and educations the process of being taught and learning. In most educational systems the students should be put first, but unfortunately they aren’t. They have other priorities that involve politics and money. There are adults and children who do want to be educated and are being held back by the poor educational systems that run our schools. Its important for us to receive an education in order for us to grow mentally and physically.
Without character education, the crime rate will stay the same or increase, students will lack the fundamentals of respect, lack good morals and ethics, and will not be able to pass what they were learned down to the next generation for the future’s society. Therefore, Character education is something that should be taught in schools because it will reduce the bullying rates, help children who do not receive the proper education in their households, and can create a better environment. Character education will help reduce the amount of bullying that takes place in schools. Bullying is major issue that affects students today, especially students in grades 6 through 12. "When current statistics show that our children stand a 1 in 4 chance of becoming the victim of some form of school-based violence or harassment, it’s clear that we have a major problem overall with the level of social skills and character development in many of our young people” (“Social” par 4).
