Wellbeing was first discussed as authentic happiness by Seligman. In the concept of authentic happiness he discussed the components of positive emotions, meaning in life and engagement. He had described these components to be very much essential in bringing in authentic happiness which he called as wellbeing. It takes the shape of subjective wellbeing, when it becomes subjective to a person’s experience alone. The concrete aspects of health and wealth may stay away from this, when a person’s subjectivity is concerned (Kammann, 1983). Over the years as we see in other studies, this concept has changed to subjective wellbeing being defined on the basis of all the areas of life, wherein the objective factors of wealth and health, and
Health is described as physical and mental well-being and freedom from disease, pain or defect. However, such descriptions only superficially define the actual meaning of health. There may be many occasions when individuals are not necessarily ill or in pain but may be overweight, stressed or emotionally unstable. Health is a quality of life involving dynamic interaction and interdependence among the individual’s physical state, their mental and emotional reactions, and the social context in which the individual exists. There are many factors that influence your health, but three major components contribute to general well-being: Self-awareness, a balanced diet and, regular physical activity.
Positive health looks at what aspects of health are there and which ones make us healthy.
...f being satisfied in life: There is no rule. Each individual has the right to look at things from his own point of view. We can all choose different paths and ways to fulfill our happiness. We can see it in wealth, in the dream-job, or in the people around us. As long as we choose that direction and take those decisions by ourselves, without being influenced by any external thought, happiness is inevitable. Here, I agree with Daniel Gilbert when he said “I don't think that's the problem. The problem is you can't always know what you want.” That is why the most important thing for happiness to be achieved is recognizing our wants and desires because just when we do, we will finally get to say “I am happy with my life!”
I improve my overall wellness by ensuring I am staying connected to God through church, spiritual reading, praying and my accountability partner (spiritual). I also try to stay in good spirits by mentally and physically protecting my self-esteem and self worth. Any time I get negative feelings about myself I refocus my thinking. I also try to find the purpose of both good and bad situations I encounter. I believe everything happens for a reason but it is up to us to discover the purpose (emotional). I also love to work out and being in shape. Sometimes it get hectic with my work and school schedule but I am learning that every bit counts. I work out at least three times a week for 45 min and I am working on making eating a healthy life style (physical). I improve my social wellness by being a positive influence

Happy, confident, energetic, strong and healthy are all qualities an individual wants. The real question is, how bad do they want it? It is really not as hard as it seems. Gradually changing your life into a well balanced, healthy lifestyle can be done. It may be hard getting rid of old habits, but it is well worth it. Start with little changes and less excuses. Living a healthy lifestyle is not a diet or some ridiculous weight loss challenge. A healthy lifestyle is about moderation, balance and simple substitutions.
Wellness is defined as “an active life-long process of becoming aware of and making choices to achieve optimal health and a more successful and balanced existence” (Ren et al., 2007). Wellness incorporates the spiritual, emotional and social wellbeing of an individual. When it came to thinking, planning and developing my SMART goal I decided to focus on my physical health as this was an area that I needed to improve the most and would also contribute positively to my spiritual, emotional, social, intellectual and environmental wellbeing aswell. In this reflective essay I will discuss and reflect on this journey. This reflection will include why I decided to focus on this specific SMART goal aswell as how I found the SMART goal journey. I will then discuss my own view on my attitudes for health and wellness and will discuss what a SMART goal is and the importance of them in order to start working towards those goals and to positively change behaviours and habits. This reflection will also include challenges that may be experienced in relation to behaviour change. These may include time management and motivation.
Living a healthy lifestyle is a melting pot of several factors. One is not able to live a healthy lifestyle without a solid diet and workout foundation. The harmful side effects of processed food, drugs, alcohol, and sleep deprivation trump one’s life while mental and emotional stability aids in a healthy lifestyle. According to Jillian Michaels, “The right diet will regulate your blood sugar, balance your hormones, and maximize your energy, all of which promote optimal fat burning and muscle development.” None the less, one must form a platform based on healthy morals and principles in order to live life to its fullest potential.

It is impossible to improve your body and mind without the spirit coming along too. Throughout our healthy brains, healthy bodies course so far, we have learned time and time again about the strong and important relationship between our brains and our bodies. Health and wellness is not one single thing, it is a collection of practices, attitudes and ways of being in the world, which help us cultivate the best form of ourselves. Finding and understanding the ways in which we can best take care of ourselves, and then applying them, gives us the opportunity to improve our physical, cognitive, mental and emotional wellbeing. Embodying our healthiest selves helps not only us, it helps those around us by providing a positive example about how to exist within our own bodies, and exist within the world. Having a healthy body can contribute to an individual’s overall well being and happiness. In the reading about virtue and health by Gary Ferngren, we learn about the meaning of ‘virtue’ in the ancient world which referred to the “quality or proficiency of men…” instead of in reference to moral behavior (Ferngren 176). The Greeks considered health to be essential to one’s virtue. Maintaining a healthy diet will help an individual perform better. Personally, I find that healthy habits are beneficial and uplifting for the soul. Those days when I eat right and am active, I am in high spirits, I feel good, and I am more motivated to achieve things. According to new US dietary guidelines, most Americans “don’t get enough health-enhancing and disease-preventing nutrients” which is a major problem that is not only physically detrimental, but also discouraging in terms of one’s mental health (Mayo Clinic Staff, “New dietary guidelines” 3). When I feel healthy on the inside, I have greater self-esteem and confidence and this is really important when it comes to how others view themselves or they potential. It also helps to maintain a positive outlook on

According to the text, wellness is defined as an "integrated and dynamic level of functioning oriented toward maximizing potential, dependent on self-responsibility." It involves both preventive health behaviors and a shift in thinking and attitude. Wellness is a lifelong promise to oneself of growth and achievement in each of the seven dimensions: emotional, spiritual, physical, occupational, intellectual, environmental, and social. It means a lifetime of ongoing change and always striving toward higher levels healthy and successful living. This means, ultimately, that one must live a life that caters to each of those dimensions both individually and collectively. Not living a healthy lifestyle, can have damaging effects on both health and life, and not only yours but the people that are around you. An unhealthy lifestyle means more illness and more expenses to treat those illnesses. This means a bigger burden on an already challenged and over-budgeted healthcare system. Poor health also means more time lost at work, less quality recreational time, and shorter lifespans. Not to mention, the onset of major chronic diseases such as cardiovascular disease, diabetes, and cancer.
