In my home country, I worked in my father’s retail store as a store manager. My father assigned me this position because he trusted me and believed that I was so careful in decision-making. After taking this class, I realized that I used lots of organizational behavior concepts unintentionally. One of the models that I used was “ The Rational Model” which is using a rational four steps sequence when a manager makes a decision”. My father gave me a big responsibility when he hired me as a store manager so I was so afraid to disappoint him. Whenever I face any problem in the store I would identify the problem, look for alternative solutions, evaluate the alternative solutions and evaluate the solution. One of the hardest problems that I faced as a manager was the decrease in sales. In the previous years the sales were much higher. In order to identify the problem, I decided to gather all the information I needed such as financial statements, merchandise, and marketing strategies. After my research I was able to identify the problem, which was the lack of the employee’s’ product knowledge. As a result of stage one, I generated alternative solutions such as hiring new staff or training the current employees, which is considered stage 2 of Rational Decision Making. In stage 3, I evaluated both solutions and decided it was more ethical to train the current staff. Finally, the solution was implemented and the employees were trained. In time, the sales increased and the solution showed effectiveness. In general, what I understood from the organizational behavior course was that my decision making style is behavioral. Behavioral decision making states that “A person communicate best by having group meetings.” (Kinicki&Fugate265). Successful encoding of messages is a vital skill in effective communication because when the sender encored the message clearly the receiver can understand it and decode it. However, when the message is not cleat the receiver can understand it decode it Listening is key to all effective communication when people don’t listen effectively the message can be misunderstood, I would pick Leonardo because he is an effective listener he always do eye contact and shows the people that he is interested in what they are saying. Moreover, I want the employees to feel comfortable when they talk to us. Also, Leonardo has facial expressions he always smiles and show warmth. I choose him because he is an effective listener and I am not, because I am not used to do eye contact. As part of my culture it considered rude.
