How would you feel if you were in Walmart and you got gunned down and couldn’t defend yourself because of a law passed? What if your life was in the hands of some politician in Washington D.C? Currently your life is in the hands of the government; the difference between you living and you dying is in the hands of the government. To truly understand the topic of gun control you have to understand the laws already in place,effects of lacking gun control, and the good effects of previous gun control.
Currently in the U.S. there are many laws preventing firearms from getting into the wrong hands and highly dangerous gun from infiltrating our country. According to the article Gun Control, The NFA has placed limits on selling or owning certain kinds of firearms, such as machine guns, short-barreled shotguns, and silencers. The NFA has also made stricter licensing and rules for firearms businesses (“Gun” Gale 2016). According to the article Gun Control, “Under the Brady Act, people in certain categories are not allowed to own a firearm. These categories include convicted felons who were in prison for more than one year; people who have escaped from prison; illegal drug users; people who have been committed to mental institutions; and people with domestic violence restraining orders”. According to the second article Gun Control, Guns kill 3,000 people in U.S.⅔ of gun deaths are suicides and ½ of suicides involve guns. Which means that approximately 2,000 of the 3,000 gun deaths are suicides and 1,000 of the 2,000 suicides involve guns. From December 2012 to February 2016 there were 892 mass shootings that killed 967 people and wounded 3,498 (“How”). Which means from 2012 to 2016 3,498 people were killed in mass shootings not including other gun deaths. These are just a few shocking statistics about the result of lacking gun
