Gun policies and restrictions have always been a major debate when it comes down to violent acts and political issues regarding the firearm; people who value self-security and have jobs or hobbies pertaining to guns believe there should not be restrictions while others believe the laws need to be strengthened . It is important to know that gun laws and restrictions vary throughout the states, so it is necessary to search specifically for an individual state if needed. It is important for gun owners and people looking to buy guns to make sure they understand the policies in their states and follow them to be safe with their guns and aware of other people’s rights. The common theme in every state pertaining to the restrictions on guns is the second amendment, "A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed"(U.S. Constitution). Though the amendment explains the rights, the federal laws still must be followed when facing policies about guns or other firearms. The National firearms act places restrictions on the possession of certain guns and accessories like silencers or short-range shotguns. They also extensively background check the owners of guns and their registry information. Although licenses and permits are need to buy and open carry a gun, owners and purchasers do not needed to register it or have a license for it to own a gun(Licensing of Owners & Purchasers). State gun laws vary throughout the US as well as the penalties placed for the crime committed, some penalties range from paying fines, doing jail time, or both. Some crimes worthy of penalties consist of possession without registration, open carry without licence, purchasing or requiring without proper procedures,
