Gun control is one of the hottest and most controversial topics in our society today. “Gun control” is an extensive term that relays to all sorts of restriction on guns. Such as what firearms can be bought and sold, who can have or distribute them, who and where they can be carried, and what duties both the seller and the buyer have to report purchases to the government. Despite the fact that there are strong opinions on both sides of this argument, the facts show guns are involved in most of all violent crimes. Without completely abolishing guns, a big step in lowering gun violence would be taking away high-capacity magazines. The second amendment of the constitution is the American’s right to bear arms. Back when the constitution was first written, times were not the same; citizens being armed was a necessity for the safety of the society. The founding fathers of our Constitution couldn’t have imagined the damage the 2nd amendment would do. Too many lives are being lost on a yearly basis because the American governments inability to fully address the problem. In Comparison to many other western regions that have enforced stricter gun laws America viewed as “The Wild-Wild West”. The gun-affiliated death toll throughout the U.S. must come to a turning point. Taking away the right to own guns could result in only criminals having gun access. The important thing to understand is that in a society where a normal citizen and criminals have gun access the likelihood of a law abiding citizen getting shot, when both parties are in possession of a firearm, is more likely than if only criminals have firearms.
