Nelson Mandela once said: “Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.” Common core is the main standard of education in the United states as of 2010 when Kentucky was the first state to implement it into their school systems. Now, six years later in 45 different states there is some version of Common Core. Kids, Parents and educators across the board are asking the same question. Is Common Core really the best way to educate our children?

There are many reasons as to why CCS or Common Core Standards have been implemented into schools all across the country. One reason is that before the idea of Common core, every state had a different standard for education. When testing was being done, it was discovered that each state had much different reading and math scores. The states with the lower standards had lower score and the states with the higher standards had higher scores. The federal …show more content…

There are a lot of changes being made to accommodate this new Standard. Teachers are being put under more of a microscope because they are having to change their whole approach to teaching. This is making teachers very frustrated. In turn, teachers aren’t really sure how to teach this new material and the kids don’t understand the curriculum. What some people don’t understand about Common Core is that when it was implemented it was started in every grade. So, the kids that were in high school that were learning one way for their whole school career had to start learning a completely different style. Schools are also spending a significant amount of money on this brand new curriculum. The amount of money spent up front was an estimated 10 billion dollars. Then, an estimated 800 million dollars for the next seven years. This cost is spread out over a couple different aspects such as new common core textbooks, curriculum, teacher training, technology upgrades and testing and
