“Young or old, social media has infiltrated our lives in a way never before imagined,” explains C. Daniel Prather in his article “The Utilization of Social Media”(1). Nowadays, social media has become something more than just websites and social interaction. It has become a critical, yet, beneficial factor in our everyday lives. In “The Cell Fish Blues” by Nancy Nevins, she explains that, “A complex addiction, cell phones feel like they make busy life better, but they make true life harder,” (612). Feeling connected and included under the social umbrella is something everyone wants. Busy people need a little entertainment now and then, therefore, social media should not be criticized as "making life harder" as Nevins explained; in fact, it should seen as beneficial to our current world. Social media has been scrutinized over the years and has developed a bad reputation; however, it has shown that it can be quite beneficial to many users.
Some people might say that social media is addictive and unnecessary to our world. In Brigid Delaney’s article, “It’s a Lonely Planet Out There -- Get Used To It” Neil Swidey wrote in, “The Boston Globe” that, “Because of technology, we never have to be alone anymore. And that's the problem.” It has become an issue that because of social medias, we are not able to ever be alone. Since we are always “connected,” we will always have “someone” to talk to. We can never get away, therefore people are claiming that social media is a terrible, addictive thing. However, that may not be the case; in fact, social media may be the most beneficial thing that has ever happened to this world.

Social media has helped people in more ways than can ever be explained. It helps people reconnect and stay connected, we receive and send information in the blink of an eye, kids are learning in a more effective way and entertainment is always a plus. People need to start looking at the brighter of social media, so they can get the best experience from it. Social medias may have some negative traits; however, the positive and beneficial attributes it has contributed outweigh those negative traits.

Technology today is more relied upon than ever before. If one needs to call someone half way around the world, simply take out a cell phone and dial their number. Within thirty seconds, one can be speaking to that person just as if two people were conversing face-to-face. In the same manner, one has access to endless knowledge and resources by the push of a few buttons or the click of a mouse. The use of social media today is becoming more prevalent than ever before because of the convenience it offers.
In the article “When Your Smartphone Is Too Smart for Your Own Good: How Social Media Alters Human Relationships”, Lori Ann Wagner declares, “according to a Pew Research survey (Duggan & Smith, 2013), 73% of adults online use some kind of social networking platform” (Page 2). As the usage of social media increases more significantly, there are more information people can receive from the Internet, and people can see and feel the life they never know before, like they can see the selfie from Obama, the Instagram photos from famed singers and actresses, the Yik Yak updates from people nearby, and the Facebook updates from families and friends. Social media, as a new thing walks into people’s life, has been regarded as influential in their life in many ways, especially in people’s relations with each other. And the increasing number leads people to ask themselves in what way the social media change people’s relations with each other.”
When you think about social media what do you think of. Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest or Vine. Well social media is more than that. Social media is not just Facebook, Instagram or Twitter. Social media is any online website that lets you interact with other people, share photo and information and keeps you updated. Or do you think about how it’s made a positive or negative impact on today’s society. In my personal opinion I think social media has made both positive and negatives impacts on today’s society .Some of the negative impacts are cyberbullying and addiction, and the positive impacts are spreading the word and increasing business sales.

The artist JR once said, “The more social media we have, the more we think we're connecting, yet we are really disconnecting from each other.” The truth behind his quote describes the way social media affects society negatively, taking away what it was actually intended for. Social media has the power to do positive things, but it may actually be a negative concept as well with dependence, shaming, and mental health as the main issues being concerned. Social media dependence has become an ongoing problem, forcing mental illnesses to come into the question with our generation slowly and unintentionally relying on technology and social media for their
Social media is so popular that according to a recent article published by forbes.com, “72% of American adults are currently using social media sites; that figure has gone up 800% in just 8 years”(Olenski). Social networking was originally created to simply reconnect people with old high school pals, but in recent years it has evolved into a completely different operation. When social media first originated it was also intended for adult usage, which has in recent years expanded into the usage of all ages. Social media can create a negative affect on lives because it has been proven to be a dangerous addiction, for it takes away interpersonal relationships that are essential in life, and it has been proven to prevent people from being productive in life.
Social media has impacted everyone that has used it at some point in his or her life. Since the world is increasing in technology advances, so is social media, which can be good and bad. Technology has made a huge difference in the world and definitely how people are doing things now. Yes, the Internet can be good for the majority of things we use it for, such as doing research, keeping in touch with family or friends who are far away, and saving time and money. Others like to take advantage of social media and use it in a way that can hurt people; it may not hurt them physically, but it can hurt them emotionally.
Some of the ideas that are central to the idea that social media is a benefit to today’s society are that social media encourages increased communication with friends and family, provides fast access to breaking news and other information, and help business attract new business and correspond more quickly with their existing customers. Increased communication is important in all aspects of life. Keeping in touch with family and friends is easier than ever before. Whether it be a Facebook post or a tweet updating friends about exciting news or being able to see a picture...
Social media has nothing but negative effects on people’s minds. Social networking can become very addicting and people can get wrapped up in the drama and excitement of the cyber world. It would only improve our society today if social media never existed to our knowledge. Our society today feels so connected with social media that it interferes with our lives making every task even harder with the temptations.
“According to Cornell University's Steven Strogatz, social media sites can make it more difficult for us to distinguish between the meaningful relationships we foster in the real world, and the numerous casual relationships formed through social media” (Jung, 2016). It is not a shocking fact when you notice that it requires much less energy to just sit around and text. It sounds innocent at first but when you realize that people are now spending hours and hours on their screens some concern
A recent article in Time magazine titled, “You Asked: Is Social Media Making Me Miserable?”, overlooked the various studies conducted on social media’s effect on people’s lives. Social media is a major part of people’s lives across the world. It provides them with information and allows them to connect with others at the click of a button or tap of a finger. Author of the article, Markham Heid writes, “Social media now dictates how people interact with friends, read the news and navigate their day-to-day existence” (TIME). However, the accessibility we now have to everything and everyone around us can lead to some negative effects. Social media keeps changing in terms of content and user interaction, and as we adapt it to it, it can do more

It allows many to speak more freely without being scared to raise their voice. Social media allows people to be more honest, as many would not have the courage to address these situations face to
