Walking the streets of Baltimore, the smell of cigarettes was everywhere. I sat at the bus stop and this homeless guy was asking for change while smoking a cigarette. I looked at him and didn’t feel any remorse because he was smoking. I imagined giving him money I had then he will spend it on cigarettes and that will be a waste of my money. I got up and moves about ten feet away from the second hand smoke but then saw a guy selling cigarettes. He has a pack of cigarettes and he is selling two cigarettes for a dollar. After about 10 munities waiting for the bus, I saw the homeless guy going to the guy who was selling cigarettes and bought two cigarettes. I looked at the homeless guy’s face and he was so happy. There is only negative factors to it that positive. According to the California’s Tobacco control program’s article the 1# preventable cause of death, the use of cigarettes as the primary way of consuming tobacco did not become popular until the early 1900s. Cigarette smoking peaked in 1965 in the United States, when about 50 percent of men and 33 percent of women smoked. Smoking tobacco can result to lung cancer or other deadly diseases that kills more than murder by more than 200 and traffic accident for more than 50. According to the New York State smoker’s quitline, 169,400 Americans contract lung cancer every year. 156,700 (93%) will die because of the disease. Of those deaths, 135,630 (87%) were smokers. Smoking is really addictive. A smoker is someone who smokes regularly. Smoking regularly causes addiction, so almost all the smokers are addicted. An addict is someone who is addicted to a substance that they cannot control themselves because the brain changes that happens when consuming the drugs occur over time and starts to object the addicted person to the point when they lose self-control to resist taking …show more content…

They argue that it is their body and they are have the right to choose what they want to do. Since smoking cigarette don’t cause people to get high or drunk that they can hurt other people, smokers believe that smoking is safe and risk free. For those smokers who knows the risk in smoking, they argue that smoking reduce the chances of being obese. I understand that people have the right of their free will but getting lung cancer is not the best way to avoid obesity. By banning cigarettes, the government is not taking away smoker’s free will but they are making necessary action to their population. Most of the smokers will quit if they could and most of the smokers start at a young age without knowing the effects of smoking. Banning cigarettes reduce the death rate of lung cancer and heart disease since they are mostly caused by smoking. The government will save over 100 billion in the next 10 years that used from the smokers medical bills. This money can be put to education, transportation and other expenses. There is many ways that smokers can benefit from the government banning smoking cigarettes. A pack of cigarette cost $20 dollars and regular smoker’s smokes at least a pack a day. That amount of money can be saved and be used for more
