This photograph known as “The man who didn’t salute Hitler” is of August Landmesser and a group of other germans, it was taken in Germany during one of Hitlers public gatherings. The fact that the photograph is taken during a time where Hitler was being praised shows that it was when Hitler was at power. The people in the front of the …show more content…

The photo is taken from what looks like the right side of a stage and everyone is focused at the middle where Hitler is even though he is not visible on the picture so it is a birds eye point of view. The colour is black and white but that also just gives more of a dark tone to the photo which is actually taken in a dark time where something cruel has started to happen. The picture is a little dynamic and in motion because of how the germans arms are diagonal but not every arm is like that so it is not overly dynamic. Everyone in the picture except for August landmesser are doing the Nazi salute which is a symbol of nazism. The story behind the picture is that Landmesser joined the Nazi party just so he could get a job but he then fell in love and tried to marry a jewish girl which meant he was being sentenced to labor camp in two years but the picture was taken before he went there. It can be concluded that August Landmesser did not support hitler when this picture was taken, especially because he was in love with a jewish woman. It can also be concluded that Landmesser decided not to praise hitler with the Nazi salute even though everyone else in the crowd was doing it and that this photo shows how many humans are followers because it is simply the easiest to do but the ones who does not follow becomes the leaders and they get recognition.
