The article “The Kids Are Not All Right” by Joel Bakan highlight about the children’s rights and problems that worries the society. The author is very intense on protecting the children as the generation Y is our country’s hope and future. There are a few problems embroil the children which are the rise of the for-profit corporation, the advance of the technology, the uncontrollable practises of the pharmaceutical industry and the increasing of the quantity of toxic chemical exposed.
The first problem embroil our children is the rise of the for-profit corporation. Corporation is a threaten to the welfare of children as new laws recognized corporation as legal “person”, granting them many of the same legal and privileges as human beings. Children spend more times engaging with various electronic media such as television, games, video and others. Children nowadays are too exposed to the unnecessary thing and not suitable for their age. Much of what children watch involves violent, sexual imagery and yet children media remain unregulated. We should follow California’s ban on the sale or rental of violent video games to minors.
Moreover, another problem that embroil our children is under-regulated pharmaceutical industry practices. Pharmaceutical industry medicate increasing numbers of children with potentially harmful psychotropic drugs. The law now requires “black box” warning on those drugs labels, but regulators have done little more to protect children.
Furthermore, another children’s problem is too exposed to increasing quantities of toxic chemicals. Chemicals is the key ingredients in children products, saturating their environment. But these chemical remain in circulation,as current federal laws demand unreasonable high proof of harm before curbing a chemical’s
