Reflection

The impact of Internet on science and technology has benefits and consequences. At first, I didn’t know that the Internet had bad consequences, especially when it cam to science and technology. However, because of the Internet there have been studies that proclaim that the Internet is bad for us but the benefits outweigh the awful problems.

The “awful problems” consist of memory loss, concentration problems, and shortening of attention span. People reported that they lost the ability to read and absorb a ‘long’ article on the web or in print. It is also said without most children/teenagers are at a disadvantage when using it.

The Internet is helping to create storage of technology. It is also creating ways to use technology to better the education and knowledge of one of the poorest countries in the world. This country is India. The Internet itself can be a teacher through basic programming. Hewlett- Packard uses cloud enabled devices to teach remote areas of India, 21st century education. This allows for the students to improve. This includes all the fields that are taught in school, such as English, Math Science etc. Along with that, this allows for the poor community to spend less money on old technology or books that have been proven wrong or have obsolete data inside. The Internet is allowing for education to be cheaper and easier as well as encouraging the students into technology and science. Through the use of the Internet, the level of learning in science and mathematics has gone up considerably

He couldn’t foresee the many ways that writing and reading would serve to spread information, spur fresh ideas, and expand human knowledge (if not wisdom).” He essentially thinks that with every technological advances there are going to be benefits and consequences as well as the positive people and the naysayers. The Internet is causing for humans to have a technological reliance. People are using the Internet to do the work for them. Reliance is that we are no longer trying to read for ourselves.

There is almost one more fact that bothers me. The fact that everyone from graduate students to researchers and foreign nationals are now accessing the pages is quite disturbing. Anything you put on the Internet can’t be erased. Doesn’t matter whether good or bad. It doesn’t matter whether your information can be false it is forever etched into the computer.
