Campus safety concerns all students, and one of the most disquieting dangers young adults must face is the risk of sexual assault. It is imperative to recognize that a significant amount of power to combat the prevalence of sexual assault and other forms of gender-based violence lies in the hands of individuals and college students that can affect institutional and cultural change on a daily basis. Rape and sexual assault crimes are more prevalent on college campuses than anywhere else, making it dangerously easy for anyone to become a victim. Most of these crimes often go unreported in fear of making the college look unsafe or “dirty”. Students tend to be afraid to speak out, and for good reason, too.
