Leonard Sweet says, “If the church is to make a difference in the world, every one of its members must begin to act and think like leaders.”
Someone looks to you to learn what it means to be a Christian.
Leadership is first about accepting the love of God.
Leadership is about accepting the fact that you are chosen by God.
It is about being a follower of Jesus Christ, about being the Church of Jesus Christ no matter what other names we may call ourselves and our church.
Our scripture passage starts out this morning, “Now these are the last words of David, the oracle or prophecy of the man whom God exalted, the anointed of the God of Jacob, the favorite of the Strong One of Israel.”

Christian leaders are not judges, not stars, . . . Christians are servants.
That is the calling Jesus accepted for himself.
And that is our highest calling.
David said, “The Lord speaks through me.”
The first requirement for leadership is to have been touched and called by God 's Spirit.
Jesus told Nicodemus: "You must be born of the spirit."
To be called by God to lead in some way is to have been chosen by God 's Spirit regardless of whether you think you are able or not.
Of course you are not able. None of us is.
But we have a God who is able.
Martin Luther said it like this, "God carves the rotten wood and rides the lame horse."
God uses even the likes of you and me to show God 's glory and to proclaim God 's truth, beauty and goodness.
We also must remember that a part of the job description is found in 1 John 4:18 which claims that "Perfect love casts out …show more content…

Without confidence in God 's love, King David could not honestly declare his commitment to ruling with justice and righteousness.
The gospel is not a pat-on-the-back, keep-the-status-quo message.
It is a challenge to be better than we are and that is only possible by the grace of God through prayer, through faith, through love, and through a dedication to serve as our Lord.
Christian leaders do no harm, do good, and practice loving God while they practice loving the people God gives them to love.
Because some of you were willing to be leaders, young people heard the good news in a school gym.
Because some of you are willing to take up the bishop’s challenge, we are preparing to go into the schools and make a difference.
Because some of you worked at it, we have lights in the parking lot so that those who are here at night will not walk in the dark as they leave.
Because of some of you, the lights and the plumbing get fixed.
The bills get paid and we make wiser decisions as stewards of God’s resources.
Because someone was willing we have a Sunday School class for young
