The Final Game
It was November 1st and it was the day of my last volleyball game. I ran into my friend Eri and we started talking about the game later that day. It was against Tunkhannock. They were the best volleyball team from our area, and wouldn’t you know it on our senior night we had to play against them. Senior night was the one night where the seniors were recognized, whether they were good or not. The whole day the team was joking about how much we would lose by against our rival team. In a game to fifteen we thought we would end up owing them points.
“Hey, Eri, are you excited about the game tonight?” I asked.
“Well, I’m more sad than anything,” she replied. “I’m going to miss all of the freshman that we taught how to play.”
“I know, but don’t you think that it’s going to be a funny game tonight?”
“Oh yeah! We’re going to get killed,” she added. “Don’t you think it was wrong for them to schedule our senior night with that game?”
“Yeah, I do think it was a little unfair,” I replied. “But at least we know we are going to get killed and don’t really have to worry about it.”
Everyone knew that this game was going to be impossible to win, so we all sort of shrugged it off. The last practice before this game consisted of reminiscing more than drills. Even our coach knew we were going to get killed, but for some reason everyone had in the back of their minds ‘what if…’
“Don’t you think it would be funny if we actually did win this game?” I asked.
“What? Are you nuts! They haven’t lost a game yet,” Jen replied.
“No, seriously. Don’t you think that they are thinking the same thing we are?” I added. “That they could win, no problem. And maybe their coach will put in the not so good people for that reason?
“Dana, they don’t have any ‘not so good’ people on their team,” Jen said while giggling.
“I don’t know. I think that we could give them a run for their money.”
“Finally it was seventh period and school was almost over. I could feel the butterflies growing in my stomach. It was 2:35, five more minutes to go and I was counting down until I could run to the gym to start practicing for the big game.
It was the beginning of a new softball season, and I couldn't wait to get out there with my team. At our first practice I remember feeling back at home on the field. Just when I thought this was going to be our teams best season, my parents moved me to a private school. Leaving what I was familiar with was not an easy task, and deciding if I would continue my passion of softball with a different team was even more difficult.
The issue of racism was a matter of life and death before the civil rights movement. But after almost sixty years, it still seems that racism has not yet been abolished in the minds of some Americans. Granted, some racial minorities have not helped their cause by becoming racial stereotypes for the purposes of humor on television and movies. Some even cry racism when not applicable, most notably the Reverends Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson. But not all people who cry racism are just pulling out the race card...

Racism (n): the prejudice that members of one race are intrinsically superior to members of other race (Wordnet search, 1), a controversial topic in today’s society, a subject that many people try to sweep under the rug, but yet a detrimental problem that has been present in America since the colonial era. Will this dilemma come to a halt? Can all Americans see each other as equals despite their skin color and nationality; and what role has it played in past generations versus today’s generations and how will it affect our future? Has this on going way of thinking gotten better or worse? These are questions raised when many think about the subject; especially members of American ethnic groups and backgrounds, because most have dealt with racial discrimination in their life time.
After that we went over to our bench the bench we sat o was green and white these benches change color according to your team's color. There are 9 people on the field at once from each team 4 attack 4 defence and 3 middie we played U of M it wa fun we destroyed them 91 0 biggest game differential ever! The game is different but is still a lot the same like i told you we were dressed now and are allowed to hit people like in boys lacrosse we don't wear pads though just goggles are gloves are required now. No extending elbows or limbs still. I sent a girl to the hospital i broke her arm. I scored 15 goals and had an awesome time. The goal turns into a star after you score and a rainbow appears. After the game we signed papers and digraphs. After the game me and Emma were tired so we went back to the dorm, and ordered a pizza. The pizza man came and he wore this weird thing it was an apron but it had squirty bottles to clean it off. The pizza guy's truck was the one with the oven and cooler it looks awesome emma said that they have them everywhere. We ordered dr. pepper that came in a 4 liter it was cool we drank it all and then we went to bed watching a movie( it was a double throwback for back to the future). As i fell into a deep sleep i saw the monkey

Every generation faces new challenges and new problems to which we have progressed, conquered or simply just swept right under the rug. In today’s world we are increasingly facing numerous social problems, such as income disparity, unemployment, political instability amongst many others, but racism seems to have resurfaced in these past years. Although, the United States has come a long way in the issue of racism, it has never completely conquered it. Incidents such the shooting at Ferguson Missouri has raised an upheaval of protesters against the Country’s system that claims equal treatment and equal opportunity for all, regardless of race or gender. Incidents such as the one previously mentioned, clearly depicts that white-power continues

“I-I don’t know,” he replies timidly. “Do we even know what we’re fighting for anymore?”
Beth grabbed my shoulder “look Alexis you should take a risk sometimes you always wanted to go to a foreign country, and look we can all go so I doubt that they can take on four girls who practice martial arts in college.” A huge laugh broke through my concern
"Well, at least this isn't your last game. You guys all have another game to play," I complained as usual.
As stated before, racism has been a major contentious issue in the United States of America. Before the abolition of slavery in the country in the mid 20th century, racism was socially and even legally sanctioned in the country. The rights that were denied to those affected by racism such as African Americans, Native Americans, Latin Americans, and Asian Americans, among others, were enjoyed...
