Birundha and Raj (1999) explains that tourism, economic development and environment have to go hand in hand and must develop a symbolic relationship. Thus, it is high time that we should examine sustainable tourism development from a regional, sub regional or even from an international standpoint.
Peter Murphy (1997) stated in his book that ‘Tourism Community Approach’ highlights the different impact of tourism in connection with the individual entrepreneurs and community. He says “Tourism has managed to become a holy cow that can be let in anywhere”.
Jennifer Hil and Timgale (2000) in their book ‘Ecotourism and Environmental

According to the United Nations Environment Programme (2001), tourism has three main impact areas: depletion of natural resources, pollution, and physical impacts.
Tourism can negatively affect an area if its development is greatly consuming the resources which is already scarce. The tourism industry uses a lot of water resources for swimming pools, hotels, golf courses and personal uses that causes a big waste of water. Dry areas with a lot of tourist use a lot of water because of the hot climate and this causes to consume more water. Besides of water resources, local resources like energy, food, and other raw materials are already in short supply. Many scenic landscapes are being replaced by construction of tourism and recreational facilities.
Construction of these facilities requires a big mass of land. Forests also suffer of scarcity because of deforestation caused by fuel wood collection and land clearing.
Tourism contributes also in pollution like air emissions, noise, solid waste, oil and chemicals, and visual pollution. Transportation is one of the cause of air
“The modern form of the word environment comes from an older word that we hardly use anymore: environ, to surround, to form a ring around, to encircle” (Stoll 3). The meaning of the word environment did not become a major factor in the lives of humanity until 1945. The tragic events that led to the end of World War II sparked a chief movement in history: American Environmentalism. Global decision-making changed as well as human unity due to the mere purpose that fate of all people and the environment became intertwined (Stoll 1). I will further discuss the dramatic attempts made by some Americans to bring the importance of preserving our environment to the surface to show if and how we have evolved.

Environment is the relationship between physical surroundings, and social background factors. A healthy environment is the key to better health, and nurses have a chance to improve the quality of environments in an array of settings by advocating for patients.
It is necessary to change and optimize one's environment to promote comfort and healing, because poor sanitation leads to poor health.
The environment must not only be seen in the common sense as another expression for nature. The natural environment surely plays a big role in such context, however, in the sense of the SGMM IV, environment is a landscape of possibilities and expectations. In order to characterize the environment

Environment does not refer only physical surroundings but also it refers the different types of people, society, their culture, customs, traditions, social heritage, ideas and ideals.
