What is the difference in wearing striped jumpsuits or khaki pants and yellow, grey, white, or black polo shirt? The striped jumpsuits are for prisoners, and the khaki pants and polo shirts are for innocent high school students. Wearing school uniforms goes against America’s freedom of choice. Having to wear uniforms to school is extremely costly, it causes students to perform at a lower level, and it takes some of the joy out of school. Wearing school uniforms goes against the core of America’s beliefs- freedom. Not only does wearing uniforms go against freedom, but it is extremely costly from year to year. As stated by Adam Sherwin, “The cost of school uniforms is leaving hundreds of thousands of children at risk of bullying and embarrassment because they are sent to school in ill fitting clothes or sent home for not having correct kit.” In saying this, Sherwin agrees that it is ridiculous to have to constantly have parents pay for uniforms as their kids grow and it is not always possible. The majority of parents cannot afford uniforms. Only five percent of parents think the cost of school uniforms are reasonable, according to Sherwin. …show more content…

According to Brownlow and Keith, not having to wear uniforms creates a relaxed environment, therefore improving the learning environment. They stated, “Students flourish when they’re treated as free range individuals, rather than battery-hen units that must conform.” Many students feel that this is true because they are happier to be at school when they can make their own choices about what they want to go to school in. In Brownlow and Keith’s article, a ninth grade students said, “‘Not having to wear uniforms is the best.
