“When we see and understand that someone is a criminal then they are seen as a criminal.” this is a most thought of saying in today’s culture, which is found often to actually be true. Once a person associates himself or herself with criminal behavior they are labeled by their community and are expected to reoffend. In today’s society we look at these juveniles and just wonder why these children act the way they do. There are several, if not many theories that we can look at that may answer the question on how and the reasons behind of juvenile delinquency. The theories that I am going to go over are the Biological, the psychological and the sociological theories. The final overview of the progression of disorders (mental) has each been centered on the theories. As I stated earlier the factors or triggers effects each individual differently. In conclusion I will end this essay with the witness who tested Atkins, this person was Dr. Evan Nelson, he was a psychologist, and he tested Atkins and concluded that the young man was mentally retarded. Dr. Evan Nelson interviewed family, school children that knew Atkins very well, plus many others, who all stated that Atkins had a violent and abrupt childhood. He also was able to retain records from his middle and his high school which each showed that he had a severe disability. The final review was an IQ test, this test review Atkins at an IQ of 59. Which is extremely low. The court ruled in favor of Atkins and he was not charged as an adult.
