Theodore Robert Cowell was born on November 24, 1946. You may know him as Ted Bundy. Ted was raised believing that his grandmother and grandfather were his adopted parents and that his mother, Eleanor Louise Cowell, was his sister. Eleanor was unmarried when she became pregnant and that was socially unacceptable. So instead of risking her family's reputation she had her parents raise her son until he was three. In 1951 his mother married Johnnie Bundy and Teds name was changed. Ted was a bright but shy child. He was antisocial as a kid but excelled as a student. It's said that around age three Bundy became fascinated with knives. As soon as he was back he started working on his next escape. He cut a hole in the ceiling of his cell and lost 35 pounds to fit through the one foot square hole. He crawled his way to the chief jailer's office who wasn't there and put some of his street clothes on and just walked out the front door unnoticed. He escaped to Tallahassee, Florida and attempted to “fly under the radar”. A week after getting to Florida he broke into the sorority house Chi Omega at Florida State University. Along with the break in he attacked and beat four women. Bundy stole a FSU van and went to Jacksonville where he attempted to kidnap a fourteen year old girl but failed. He continued his journey and went to Lake City where he took a twelve year old girl and her body was found a few months later. A Florida cop pulled him over close to the Alabama state line. Once the cop realized the car was stolen he tried to arrest Bundy and Bundy fought him but lost. This time around Bundy was suspected of 36 murders in four states. The teeth marks on the girls from Chi Omega matched Bundy and that was enough to get him sentenced twice to death by the electric chair. During all of this Bundy had a girlfriend named Carole Ann Boone. Carole did not know Bundy until after he was in custody. They continued to see each other thanks to conjugal and supervised visits.     Ted's family knew there was something wrong with him ever since he was a baby. His mother said that he had strange lapses as a child where he would go silent and still. Ted stayed with his parents for two years and during that time he had many low paying jobs, the first being a gardener at the local mall. In 1971, Ted's parents woke up to find Ted gone and only a note thanking them for letting him stay with them. The note was so short and to the point that his father thought that it he was going to commit suicide.
