Theodore Roosevelt was one of our greatest presidents. He created the FDA and improved the position of the presidency greatly. Before Theodore came to be president, the position of presidency was slow and wasn’t very interesting so he made the executive branch more powerful by starting new reforms and a strong foreign policy. The life of a president is hard. It is full of stress, responsibilities, and a strong dedication the welfare of your country. Theodore had to deal with all of these presidential stresses, taking up much of his time. Do you know, though, that despite being a president, he led a life of excitement and freedom that many other presidents had never before experienced? Theodore, “Teddy” as his first wife Alice called him, Roosevelt was more than just our president, he was a dedicated author who wrote many books; he was also a rancher, and, surprisingly, he was a big time hunter. Even though Theodore Roosevelt was a president, his life was filled with exciting adventure, times of hardships, responsibilities to many, and influences upon many government positions. Theodore Roosevelt was born on October 27, 1858, in New York City, to Theodore Roosevelt Sr. and Martha Roosevelt (Unites States. National Park Service. History: Theodore Roosevelt: Life). As a child, Teddy was burdened with an “acute” asthma, his eyesight was horrible, having to wear thick glasses his whole life, and his physical stature was small and frail (Teddy Roosevelt). His father advised Teddy to dedicate himself to physical fitness. The presidency of Theodore Roosevelt is well known in the general public and his actions still stand strong in our society today. President Trump’s election was a shock to many that thought Hilary Clinton was a shoe-in for the seat. Trump has already made an impact that will likely be remembered for many years to come. Although there are slight differences, President Trump and former President Teddy Roosevelt are alike in many ways. These ways include their backgrounds, their physical uniqueness, their personalities, and their policies. Throughout history, United-States citizens have elected several presidents, and each one of them are worth knowing for an event or an act in particular. Theodore Roosevelt is one of the elected presidents, and he is worth knowing because he helped establish the Children's Aid Society, he facilitated the construction of the Panama Canal and he averted a national emergency by dealing with the 1902 coal strike. Theodore Roosevelt as a child was homeschooled by tutors, private teachers, and was interested in zoology and biology. His family had been in America since the 1600’s, and he was the seventh generation of his family in America. Their last name was originally Rosenvelt after the town in the Netherlands where their family came from. In Dutch, the name Rosenvelt means field of roses.

In the book Theodore Roosevelt by Louis Auchincloss, I learned a great deal about the twenty-sixth President of the United States of America. Former President T. Roosevelt made many accomplishments as president, and did not have a high number of scandals. Roosevelt did very well in keeping the peace between the different countries, which earned him many admirers and the coveted Nobel Peace Prize. He was most noted for establishing the United States Forest Service and assembling five new national parks. Teddy provided 18 sites specifically for national monuments as well being influential to a variety of acts that were passed by Congress such as the Reclamation Act of 1902.
