Technology is Degrading Our Quality of Life
Technology seems to be advancing at a rate that seems to exceed a regular, average human’s ability or brain capacity to keep up with it. It seems to me, and may to others as well, that every time you go out and purchase something that is considered new, or top-of-the-line, or innovative, the next day you will see something that is considered better or more innovative than what you bought.
With the advancement of technology comes the advancement of communication and media, as well as mass communication and mass media. The internet, which was only used by a few number of people 10 years ago, due to its high cost and limited capabilities, is used by a vast majority of people around the world today. It is now easily accessible and fairly inexpensive. This technology allows for the sending and retrieving of information to and from all over the world in as little as a few seconds.
While the advancement of technology and the internet can be great (i.e. you can talk to family and friends everywhere, run your business, play games, shop, etc.), it also has its drawbacks, like people who go online to lie and deceive (and possibly harm) other people, companies or individuals who can gain access to the personal information of a lot of people, and pornography.
To look more closely at pornography, it is important to realize that there are some people that look as pornography is immoral or wrong in and of itself, and then there are those who aren’t so much against pornography in general, but are against the easily accessible material over the internet that can be viewed by young children with just the click of a mouse. [1] However, no matter what views people have toward it, porno...

Many people might feel that much of the information provided to them in this paper is opinionated. It is clearly so, for two main reasons. The first is that the sources found for this were mainly opinionated. The second reason for this is because when dealing with an issue such as this, there are many variables. Every study’s findings will have a study showing opposite findings. Personally I feel that there is a problem with internet pornography, but I cannot present a decent solution, or even a good way to prevent children from gaining access. I do feel that looking at how something has impacted society, you have to look at opinions, because the impact something has on society is based on the opinions of the people within that society, and everyone may have a different perspective.
Sandy Hook is an elementary school in Connecticut that was invaded by a shooter, Adam Lanza. Twenty-eight people were shot and killed, twenty of them being children between the ages of five and ten. Before Lanza arrived, he shot and killed his mother who was a teacher at this school. The article was published the day of the shooting to the Washington Post. The article was written announce what had actually happened during this tragic event. The article was directed towards parents with kids and adults to inform everyone on the catastrophe and to hopefully make schools as safe as they could possibly be. Additionally the author also states that this is not the right time to try and discuss the gun control laws.

In today society, beauty in a woman seems to be the measured of her size, or the structure of her nose and lips. Plastic surgery has become a popular procedure for people, mostly for women, to fit in social class, race, or beauty. Most women are insecure about their body or face, wondering if they are perfect enough for the society to call the beautiful; this is when cosmetic surgery comes in. To fix what “needed” to be fixed. To begin with, there is no point in cutting your face or your body to add or remove something most people call ugly. “The Pitfalls of Plastic Surgery” explored the desire of human to become beyond perfection by the undergoing plastic surgery. The author, Camille Pagalia, took a look how now days how Americans are so obsessed
One of the most horrific tragedies that could ever happen in one of our nation’s elementary schools occurred on December 14, 2012 in Newtown, Connecticut. Around 9:30 a.m. a heavily armed lone gunman, blasted his way through a window located to the right of the front door of Sandy Hook Elementary school using a Bushmaster .223 caliber rifle. It only took six .223-caliber bullets to shatter enough glass to create a hole big enough for him to enter through. The name of this lone gunman was 20 year old Adam Lanza, a former student at Sandy Hook. In addition to his rifle, Adam also brought with him, two pistols (a Glock and a Sauer); which he kept inside a pair of military-style cargo pants he was wearing. He was also wearing a utility vest that contained ten magazine with thirty rounds each in its pockets. Once inside the school he entered the school’s main office and nurse’s office. He did not see the staff members who had been hiding, so he headed back out into the hallway.
When the car industry comes to mind, you think of Detroit. When oranges come to mind, you think of Florida. When pornography comes to mind, you think of the Internet. Almost everything in today’s society has its place, and the place for the pornography industry is the Internet. Being almost inevitable, pornography has become part of everyone’s Internet experience. Whether its junk e-mail or a nasty pop-up for $3.99 a month subscriptions, its hard to say that there isn’t anyone out there who hasn’t been exposed to Internet pornography in one way or another. One reason for this is the overwhelming size the pornography industry has grown to become. For some, the easy access to the industry has allowed for millions of dollars to be made. For others, this has caused serious problems. Parents who have children know what troubles Internet pornography can bring. Not only do actual pictures and services provide a venue for profits to be made, but software preventing the easy access has became more popular as well.
Pornography today is only a click away, sometimes not even that far, and often times making unrequested appearances on the edges of otherwise innocuous websites. Indeed, a 2008 online survey about pornography exposure concluded that 9 out of 10 male and 6 out of 10 female respondents were exposed to it during adolescence (Sabina, Wolak, & Finkelhor). Those numbers are not likely to decrease, given that pornography is a profitable business with an estimated 13 billion dollars yearly revenue (Jackson, 2012), and that it has never been as easily available as it is now since about 95 percent of the current U.S teen population has full access to an internet connection (Madden, Lenhart, Duggan, Cortesi, & Gasser, 2013).
Watching sexual activities through mass media is prevalent around the world. Due to the recent progress of science and technology, pornography has become a more commercialized activity and a source of prostitution. It is nonetheless certain that everybody does not consume pornography for the same purpose. Some practitioners and producers may consider it as a means of subsistence or a re-enforcement of sexual desire and arousal. Pornography is rejected by many religious organizations on a divine and societal moral basis. It may not be the same for business industries whose main objective is to making money. Humans can watch pornographic videos and become addicted to it.
There are a few components that go along with technology. There are a lot of pros to technology, but what else is it good for? Many people think that technology is bad, but at this time of life, the good always outweighs the bad.
Since the invention of the computer and the creation of the internet, technology has come a long way. Computers initially filled up entire rooms to now easily fitting in the palm of the next 10-year old kid, the internet id a platform that is beneficial for the distribution of content such as music and video. Companies across the globe took an early potential the internet had to make them money and push their company 's forward. The pornographic industry hasn 't let this new form of technology pass then by, that can clearly be seen in almost every form of media today with online pornography being one of its most explicit versions. For the past several years, a debate as to whether porn causes negative effects in the individual and social lives
Cosmetic surgery has become a vital component of modern-day society. It’s good has left the apprehensive glistening with confidence and poise. However, like everything else it’s bad has many times over shadowed and been disputed against. Its ability to replace flaws with ideal body features has left numerous patients with an obsession for the quest of perfection. Individuals go to large magnitudes in order to seek this perfection such as spending irrational amounts of money and for those who cannot afford these surgeries, traveling to different countries in order to get surgeries done. These surgeries that have levitated millions of insecurities have many times left the patient mentally unstable with obsession disorders or physically botched if not done correctly or by an unaccredited surgeon.
Cosmetic Surgery has been around ever since the early wars to repair scars and injuries but, “today, cosmetic plastic surgeries outnumber reconstructive ones in many countries.” (Edmonds, 2012, p. 134). Cosmetic surgery continues to grow in popularity all around the world. It has now evolved to beautify an unattractive physical appearance. In 2013, Americans spent more than seven billion dollars on cosmetic surgery according to a website titled, Healthline. Cosmetic surgery may sound ideal to someone who is unhappy with a physical appearance but it can be very dangerous. According to “The Culture of Beauty”, “analysts agree that because
To some, pornography is nothing more than a few pictures of scantily clad Women in seductive poses. But pornography has become much more than just Photographs of nude women. Computer technology is providing child molesters and child pornographers with powerful new tools for victimizing children. Pornography as "the sexually explicit depiction of persons, in words or images, Sexual arousal on the part of the consumer of such materials. No one can prove those films with graphic sex or violence has a harmful effect on viewers. But there seems to be little doubt that films do have some effect on society and that all of us live with such effects.
Advertisement for cosmetic surgery are everywhere from the front page on the magazine by the block to the television commercials. Surgery has been deeply impact to younger groups of kids. It has become at table discussion at dinner nowadays. A young girl got a nose job, rhinoplasty to make more symmetrical. She didn’t think she was ugly she just wanted her face to be proportional. The summer after school one of her friends got one. Girls at her praised her for her new nose. Everyone was so much impressed they booked an appointment for themselves. “ Magazine have pushed the envelope on what it means to be beautiful and surgery is a nowadays way to deal with body issues” Perloff para 12). The Internet came with an abundant amount of benefits for our civilization as a whole. People became more connected and had the ability to access information they would have otherwise never seen. Yet, there is another side to this connectivity a much more malicious side: pornography. Pornography, typically abbreviated as porn, dominates the internet- as many as 12% of all websites are pornographic and the industry is worth nearly $97 billion . With regards to acceptance, some supported pornographic consumption while others rejected it due to religious or moral beliefs. Porn was considered as something that was not very dangerous. This has all changed, however, within the last decade as piles of research highlights the crude effects of pornography, not just on adults, but also adolescents. Porn harms adolescents through obscenity and early exposure to sexual images, this in turn promotes less progressive gender roles and sexual behavior .
