Technology Inhibits Student Fun

In 2015, the Buckeye Union High School District passed the BUHSD Bond that allotted a sum of money to provide technology for all students in the district. With a one to one technology based campus, every teacher can use technology to benefit students in the classroom. In Clifford Stoll’s essay “Makes Learning Fun,” he argues that technology inhibits learning. Stoll thinks that technology is useless and should not be used in schools; however, I completely disagree with that idea. Instead of a blockade to the learning process, technology is a tool to further learning. “With a computer, you’re interacting with something, not someone” (Stoll 259). In reality, computers bring new ways of communication to school. Whereas with a paper-based system, papers have to be hauled home and back by teachers to grade and make notes on. With a computer based system, feedback can be sent instantly. The important part of this is speed and efficiency. When teachers and students can communicate more easily and the teacher’s help is more accessible, students can instantly implement their learned lessons into their current and future work. One example of this is Anatomy class. Mrs. Kohli created a class page on Schoology.com that held all of the classes’ assignments and paperwork. This site also featured a messaging system. Before tests, students were encouraged to message questions. After struggling with figuring out an animation of the kidney’s inner workings, I messaged Mrs. Kohli and received an explanation of the material in less than five minutes. Instant gratification is a struggle for new generations, but in this case the speed of the response helps studying be more efficient and up-to-date thanks to improved communication with
