Celebrity endorsements can make or break a product and even a company. Especially in today’s world many teens will buy a product just predominantly based on who endorses it. For example, Beyoncé promotes both Pepsi and H&M. She is a great representative for both because she is a really big celebrity and she is very well known. She also has a lot of influence. Young girls would love to dress like her and with H&M endorsing her they get that demographic. Pepsi made a good choice because she, like the previous celebrities they endorsement deals with, is a very public figure with a very big name. Many teens and young ...
Is it in you? Have you ever wondered if Gatorade really gives you a competitive edge over H2O (water) in an athletic event or while training? I’ve seen countless commercials and have always pondered the thought; can this sports drink really give you the edge you need? I mean, professional athletes from Michel Jordan to Tiger Woods have endorsed this drink and given it the reputation is has today. I myself was a believer that water was better than Gatorade until I wrote this paper. Now I believe that Gatorade has far more nutritional value than water, because it provides essential minerals, carbohydrates and electrolytes.
I decided that I had to educate myself further about Gatorade. I observed that since the end of 2012, Gatorade’s sales are 3.3 Billion Dollars. Furthermore, Gatorade has many products such as drinks, powders, energy chews, and even energy bars. Gatorade drinks are put into five categories; Original, Frost, Fierce, Low Calorie, and Endurance. Original Gatorade has seventeen flavors. The other categories have about five flavors each. Not surprisingly, Gatorade has plenty of competitors, including PowerAde. To my surprise, Gatorade was invented at the University of Florida in the summer of 1965, when researchers and physicians noticed that college sports teams, The Florida Gators,
In 2003, Palmer Jackson, Inc. created a new line of sports beverage called Green Ox. This beverage has some differences from other similar beverages, as it contains the benefits of antioxidants and it can compete in more than one category, such as sports drinks, vegetable juices, and antioxidant supplements. These are not the only advantages of Green Ox, because some reputable reports argue there is a strong link between using the vitamins and minerals that Green Ox has to reduce the risk of some specific types of cancers, and Green Ox will launch on a type of market that is growing to 15% per year. In order to ensure the success for Green Ox, the company has contracted with Marketing Studies Incorporated (MSI) to study the market and do some important researches. However, Palmer Jackson, Inc. faced one of the challenges that has been common when companies prepare to launch new products on the market. First, the company needed to determine the target audience, especially as we know the large variety of people who deal with this kind of product. Second, the company needed to think thoroughly about how it could position Green Ox with its benefits on consumers’ minds, as Green Ox has the capacity to compete in three different
Athletes are a big part of the business community. The media exposure athletes receives cause them to be perceived more as celebrities. It causes them to have a greater impact in the marketing and selling of products. For instance, the tremendous amount of media coverage that Michael Jordan received gave him a prominent role in the business world. Athletic companies and various kinds of businesses wanted him to endorse their products. Now, because of his Nike endorsement, the athletic apparel and shoe industries are a big part of the American economy. Through endorsements companies now look upon athletes to strengthen their products. In most cases, this method is usually successful. This gives an overall boost to the economy, hence fortifying athletes’ significance.
A decade worth of athletes has had the chance to eclipse Michael Jordan in the minds of the consumer. Yet even out of the spotlight Jordan remains the sports personality with the greatest endorsement chops in the U.S.”( Badenhausen).
A lot of people think that Gatorade is the only drink that can give you back the energy that you lost on the field or court but it’s not the only drink. Gatorade, aimed at all athletes of all ages, has made an intensive campaign through our history. Gatorade has become a household name in America and has made its way into the popular culture. In one Gatorade advertisement where there was a lot of athlete’s player all different kind of sport and each of them are talking about what’s the secret to victory. And the background music is very motivating and in the video the beat of the music is in the right spot. At the end of the advertisement they show that Gatorade was part of victory. we realize that aside from the directive to change from drinking water as a source of rehydration to Gatorade, that the commercial targets factors like race and gender. The ad suggests that the only way you can evolve is with Gatorade in your system.
Companies utilize different marketing strategies to appeal to their target audience. The methods they use to market their products usually reflects the target audience’s preferences or needs. Gatorade was invented at the University of Florida in 1965 by a team of researchers. They discovered nutrients were not being replenished when the school’s football team competed and formulated a solution to the problem. Today Gatorade primarily targets athletic or physically active individuals, especially professional athletes. Over time, Gatorade has become one of the most popular and leading sports drink companies in the world. Many people recognize what Gatorade is and what they do to help individuals who need the extra replenishment so they can continue
Pepsi by all means, will not hesitate to when promoting their products and in fact, Pepsi has been spending over one billion dollars on advertisements, gaining thirty-four millions Facebook likes and two million Twitter followers (O’Brien. Nike’s positioning in the market has more of a mass appeal compared to their main competitor Adidas who strive to make products for elite athletes. The positioning strategy for Nike is currently working at a satisfactory level as Nikes global annual sales between 2013-2014 was reported as 27.8 billion (Statista, 2014) compared to Adidas’ 19.95 billion (Statista, 2014). The global market for sports apparel is expected to grow at a compound annual growth rate of 4% between 2012-2019, Nikes compound annual growth rate during 2010-2012 was 12.3% which is an excellent result as the brand’s growth was larger than the market as well as outgrowing Nike’s closest competitors Adidas, Puma and Asics (Forbes,
The term ethos describes an appeal to credibility or character. They do a great job establishing credibility because the athletes are seen performing with the drink, which in turn, would persuade viewers to believe that if they drink Gatorade that they will perform at the same level. The people in the commercial are able to directly link their greatest successes and failures to Gatorade by making it seem that it was a major part of their success. This helps build the credibility of all of the athletes in the ad because everyone wants to be able to believe that people like these athletes would know most about the energy drinks that fuel them in live games. Since Gatorade is able to build this seemingly credible source because of who vouches for them, they have been able to spread their product across the nation while building their energy drink
You’re in the middle of the most intense workout of the season, your muscles are burning, you tired, sweating, and thirsty. What better thing to drink to than Gatorade? Gatorade is the official and favorite drink of many professional athletes in sports worldwide, and when Gatorade makes commercials or starts an ad campaign, it tries to garner the attention of athletes or people interested in sports, and with the Gatorade commercial I’ve chosen nothings different. This commercial for Gatorade drinks targets athletes of both, male and female of all ages, by appealing to their need for achievement, aggression, and domination. The commercial actually has two messages. The first one is one man’s dream is another man’s nightmare, and the second message is that by using Gatorade, it will help you train and get better.
In dealing with New Balance’s weakness in the area of marketing it would be beneficial for the company to find a celebrity to endorse their product line. New Balance has always been against celebrity endorsements which emphasize fashion trends and sway potential customers more by popular personalities than by performance and function. This has severely limited the company’s ability to reach the same kind of global awareness as its competitors. New Balance should find a serious, yet well known athlete who holds to the same kind of ideals as the company, to endorse their brand. This will create the type of brand recognition that they need in order to stay competitive.
Competition also presents itself in original sports drinks, such as Gatorade (Pepsi) and Powerade (Coca Cola). Furthermore, premixed alcoholic drinks like the Smirnoff range form part of the competition.
