“Sports drinks such as Gatorade promise better athletic performance, but in some cases they’re not really necessary. Water does the trick in many cases” (Kent). Gatorade is the most common sought after sports drink by athletes. Gatorade uses effective advertising to display their products to the public. With the use of professional athletes and other famous people, Gatorade’s ads persuade people everywhere to use their products. In this ad, Gatorade uses Dwyane Wade who is a professional basketball player to showcase their product. Wade is drinking Gatorade while in his basketball uniform, showing Gatorade’s customers that he uses it to play well. These companies are willing to spend tons of money to persuade customers that drinking Gatorade is highly beneficial. According to Richardson “Americans spent $5.5 billion on sports drinks, mostly Gatorade and Powerade last year." Gatorade uses professional athletes and famous people to present their product to the public. The reason this is so effective is because people everywhere want to be famous, so they will live the lifestyle of a famous person. For example, in this ad Dwyane Wade is drinking Gatorade causing basketball fans everywhere to consume Gatorade as well. Gatorade portrays images that no other product does, they show the effects that their products can give. According to Gatorade’s ads if a person would consume their product they too will be playing professional basketball, hitting the game winning shot, winning the championship, or becoming famous. Their ads overshadow the truths of their product, Gatorade really isn’t that healthy for a person even if Dwyane Wade is consuming it.
