Richard Louv is one of the most illustrious writer of his time. Louv’s Last Child in the Woods does a phenomenal job at describing one of the biggest problems affecting the world. Last Child in the Woods is one of his most prominent works and has landed him international stature. The book is divided into seven parts and they all guide the reader towards the path of enlightment of this frequently neglected topic. His books have been translated into thirteen languages and has been published in seventeen countries, which have helped him launch an international movement (Green). Louv has written for a myriad amount of publications but most notably for, The New York Times ,The Washington Post, the Times of London, Orion, and Outside. He has also been a columnist for The San Diego Union-Tribune and Parents Magazine (Green). Louv has appeared on several radio and television programs, notably The Today Show, CBS Evening News, and NPR’s Fresh Air (Green). In 2010, he delivered the keynote at the national conference of the American Academy of Pediatrics, as well as being the keynote speaker at the first White House Summit on Environmental Education (Green). Louv served as a visiting scholar for Clemson University and Brandeis University’s Heller School for Social Policy and Management. He is a member of the editorial board of the journal, EcoPsychology. Nature needs to be brought home and cherished. Parents have to assimilate and make time for nature. Parents, teachers, and children have to all come together and learn to appreciate the outdoors, before it is too late. Nature will do wonders for children and help them fully reach their potential, all while fostering a sense of enjoyment and safety. Nature is vital for learning to survive in this ever changing world and environment. Species come and go but nature has remained since the dawn of time. Nature will outlive humans and will ultimately take back the planet, which humans are slowly destroying. Society needs to adapt and not deprive children of it. Nonetheless, Liability is major concern and has lead to strict and harsh regulations which protect businesses and facilities, but therefore negatively impact the future generations.
