Struggles of a Blank Canvas Aspiring artists are encouraged by their teachers, friends and family to attend an art university after graduating high school. Art teachers recommend going to an art school because it can further an artist’s art education and skills. Friends and family believe by going to an art school, an artist will have a better work environment. There is always a mindset that artists should go to an art university like The Art Academy in San Francisco to become a great artist. However, no matter where an artist goes for college, they are still able to receive a degree in art wherever they go. They can receive the same art education from a university such as Fresno State University that does not focus all its attention …show more content…

A mistake in art can easily be turned into something more noteworthy in the finished piece. Artists are the ones who created the clothes a person wears; they designed the cups one drinks from- all of the things that have little to no significance to someone. However, Brian Kisida, Jay P. Greene, and Daniel H. Bowen from the Atlantic, believe that having an art education can help students improve on other studies at school. In their article “Art Makes You Smart,” Kisida, Greene and Bowen conducted a study; students who visited an art museum had stronger critical thinking and a better social and historical understanding. Kisida, Greene, and Bowen concluded that the exposure of an art education challenges students’ minds with different ideas and perspectives of society. They also believe that the importance of an art education should be the center of all schools because of these results. That is why the art departments in schools need more funding for better art programs.
