When watching the Star Trek episode I concluded that Data was a “person”. In the courtroom, Data revealed that he knows that he is fighting for his rights and possibly his life. I believe that Data should be considered a person because he is aware of what he is, what he is on trial for, and what the results of the trial would do to him. In addition, although Data has some oddities - i.e. super human strength - that humans do not have it was implied that he had an understanding of emotions. For example, it was shown that Data kept all of his medals and awards in a display case because he “wanted” them. When a person keeps accolade it is usually because they are proud of themselves for achieving a goal or that they want to be able to look back
Human; relating to or having characteristics of a person(Merriam-Webster). A human is truly just a soul combined with characteristics of other people, and this is proven by Jenna Fox; the main character in The Adoration of Jenna Fox by Mary Pearson. After finding out what her body is made up of, Jenna along with other characters think she is not human. Despite this Jenna Fox has always had the key elements it takes to be a human been. Jenna for one has a past and memories that make up her life even after the accident. More importantly it is unfair to call her a “monster” when she shows characteristics similar to that of other humans. Needless to say, Jenna just as any other human isn’t perfect, and she later learns that in order to be one hundred percent human she must have the same chances of succeeding in life as any other human would. Jenna Fox is human because she has a soul regardless of her differences.

To be human is to be apart of a whole, mass collective, relating to, or characteristics of humankind rooting from evolution. Human beings are defined as organisms that have human attributes, normally consisting of two arms, two legs a nose, ears and eyes. Personhood is the quality or condition of being an individual person. When a human being is dubbed as a ‘person’, it proclaims their rights as an individual, detaching them from the masses. What makes us different from other beings is our ability to think compassionately, rationally and develop understanding, connections and relationships. We as human beings have a precedence over other beings because we are able to do this.
When thinking about my personality in regard to different personality theories, I felt that I could most relate to the humanistic theory. Carl Rogers described self-concept as a collection of beliefs about one's own nature, unique qualities and typical behavior. My self-concept is that I'm an easy-going, nice guy. If something happens that upsets me, I am pretty laid back about it and deal with it gradually. I like the fact that I'm easy going, and I don't want to suddenly start showing a temper or overreacting about things that I know I can get past calmly. The meaning of being human is often questioned and argued by almost everyone. Of the many mysteries that surprise and delight us, understanding what makes humans human, is the most common and compelling. But what do we, as human beings, consider a human to be? Some say that humans, in comparison to animals, are self-aware, possess feelings, and contain flaws that make them imperfect. Others believe that being human means to have faith in religion or a higher being. There is not one certain way to justify what it means to be human since every individual has his or her own beliefs. In order to define personhood, one must first define a human. A Human can be thought about in two different senses, a moral human sense and a genetic human sense. In a moral sense, humans can be thought of as a person who is a member of the moral community. In a genetic sense, humans are merely any physical being categorized as a being in the human species.
