Sports Education is defined very simply relating to the title. It is the teaching of sports. This teaching may take place in the classroom, in the gym, or on the field. Whether you are teacher, coach, trainer, or a parent, sport education is something kids of all ages will be interested in at one point or another in their lives. The objective of sport education is to further educate students and kids in the world of athletics, and how this added knowledge can impact them physically, mentally, and emotionally. Sport education not only includes teaching how to play a sport but how to practice it, the rules and regulations, and the ethics involved with sportsmanship and respect. While the students find growth in all of these areas, they also learn how to cope with competition and expand their own confidence and leadership abilities. Students can also improve their overall health and wellbeing by playing sports and training to become better.
One of the first steps in sports education is being able to touch upon all sports, as not all of the students will have the same interest in sports as each other. Some may like basketball, and some may like soccer, either way, you have to be able to teach these sports in an appealing way. Some students, no matter what age level, will have more strength in certain sports than others. You have to be able to teach in a way that can accommodate all the students’ skill levels. You have to start with the basics. For example, basketball. You wouldn’t start a 3rd grade class off with a dribble course that ended in finishing a lay-up at the basket. As a teacher or coach, you’d start them off with standard dribbling drills where they stand still and practice basic dribbling motions, and then demonstrate...
