Sponsorship can be done through the Government-Assisted Refugees program (GARs), in which the Convention refugees initial settlement is supported entirely by the Government of Canada or the province of Quebec for up to one year. Refugees can be sponsored by Sponsorship Agreement Holders, which are organizations that have signed sponsorship agreements with the Government of Canada to help support refugees when they resettle in Canada. They can either sponsor refugees alone or with others in the community. These organizations tend to be religious, ethnic, community or service organizations. Another type of sponsorship is the Blended Visa Office- Referred Program which matches refugees identified by the UNHCR for resettlement with private sponsors
