Space exploration has saved the lives of millions with CAT scans that would not have been invented without NASA. This program has enhanced the security around our country, protected the planet from outside threats, and has given us a backup plan if the Earth’s resources run out. These are only some of the reasons we should have a space program. Traveling to space would help us find valuable resources that might become scarce one day in the future. We have to boost our resources or the resources might run out and kill us. According to parabolicare.com “International Academy of Astronautics found that space mineral resources can benefit humanity and served as an a economical “game changer” in developing countries.” What this means is that humanity will be better served if we use space exploration to find minerals. If they do this it will help the economy and help us live a better life. If we do not use this technology to find minerals we could run out of natural resources that helps us through our everyday life.. This may not seem like a big deal now however, it is better to have too much than too not have enough. …show more content…
We will go extinct like the dinosaurs if we do not use space exploration. A lot of people try to recycle to help the earth be habitable, this is doing the same thing by helping the earth be habitable. Research shows that “About 30,000 objects are floating near Earth that could strike it someday-1,600 of which NASA labeled as “potentially hazardous.” ‘ If one of those 1,600 hazardous asteroids comes hurtling towards us someday we need to protect ourselves. “But effectively protecting the planet from asteroids will require constant vigilance over the long haul, experts say, since the threat of a major cosmic impact will never go away.” If we want to protect ourselves we have to start now because the threat is every minute of everyday. Money will have to be spent if you want the planet to be
Have you ever wondered what Earth was like without space exploration? In the story Leaving Main Street the author states, “The United States has more important things to spend money on.” On the other hand some people believe that successful space programs adds to our economy, national prestige, create jobs, and improves national security. We shouldn't spend valuable resources on space exploration, because we could end hunger and poverty.
As a country we need to start investing more money and research into space technology. Programs currently exist for this effort, but the potential for research and progress is limited by a lack of funding; compared to other government funded programs, aerospace funding is pitiful. Continued research in space technology is a necessary step in our growth and development not just as a country but also as entire human race. If we are to achieve this goal, it is necessary to increase funding for space research and technology and consider the possibility of colonizing outer space. If we limit our existence to the planet Earth, and continue to drain the resources on this planet, we will destroy the only home we have.
"That's one small step for a man, one giant leap for mankind." - Neil Armstrong (Dunbar). When Armstrong took those first steps on the moon he probably never realized that, in the future, people would be questioning whether we should continue spaceflight. Some question whether human space flight is worth all the money that goes into it. So why not send robots, others inquire, they are less expensive to send. Some question whether space flight is necessary at all and plead with others to focus on the problems we face here on Earth. Others would refute that remark and say that space flight helps us to understand our own planet and is therefore benefiting us. Not to mention all the inventions that are created that aid in everyday life that were created in the space flight endeavor
Earth has served as a good home for humans for many years, and will most likely
A serious and well-funded space program must have the capacity to monitor large asteroids that could destroy the planet.” NASA is protecting the Earth drastically by monitoring deadly asteroids that could possibly cause a Mass Extinction. A mass extinction is where all species are wiped out with no more left of their kind. The dinosaurs became extinct because a huge asteroid hit the Earth and wiped all of them out. NASA can create solutions that could stop these asteroids before the come towards the Earth.
The first reason why asteroid mining should be prioritized is that it can lead to economic growth and become self-sufficient. Asteroids are known to be
Dreams of exploring regions of the cosmos have been a vision for hundreds of years. The twentieth century signaled a shift from dreams to reality. By World War II, Germany’s “rocket would grow from an experimental plaything to a weapon of war” (Sparrow 11). Following the war, global superpowers, the United States and the U.S.S.R, raced to develop advantages over each other using discovered German rocket research. In turn, the events ignited the United States’ efforts toward space.
Mankind has always been fascinated with exploring the unknown. From sailing to distant lands to someday setting foot on other planets, the spirit of exploration is the same. Bur now with the current economic situation and the high cost of sending people to space, NASA is being looked at as a way to free up some much needed funds. Although, there is many problems here on planet Earth that need addressing, the benefits of space exploration far out weight the disadvantages. Space exploration has given us more advanced technology, advances in the medical field, and a boost to the economy and these facts cannot be disputed.
But if research into new technology continues we should be able to someday terraform Mars. A man named Elon Musk announced that he has a plan to get people from Earth and send them to Mars by 2030 to begin colonization of the red planet. He is creating new more powerful rocket engines called “Raptors” to be installed on his spacecraft that will transport future astronauts to Mars (“The New York Times – Breaking News, World News & Multimedia’). As with the new rocket engines we will continue to build, create, and improve our technologies to further fulfill our needs and desires. As humans we need oxygen and that is one major thing Mars lacks and it lacks this because its atmosphere is extremely thin, this allowed much of the Suns’ ultra violet rays to seep through and evaporate much of the liquid water that once existed on the planets’ surface a million years ago (‘University Today – Space and Astronomy News”.).
... resources. Once the ethical, diplomatic, and economic issues have been settled, then space exploration should be considered. It can expand human civilization, but it is not a necessity and can even be detrimental.
The 1960's brought new advancements for all of Earth. Machines and men were sent into space, and this sparked a new government agency, called NASA. Space was a new frontier, and virtually everyone was interested in exploring it. Over the years, the interest in space exploration has weakened, and NASA was almost terminated from existence, although there have been many advancements in it over that time. Space exploration should continue because it could help solve many problems on Earth, such as overpopulation and lack of resources. Exploration of the final frontier must continue in order for human life to continue.
The main argument against space travel is that the money used could be better put on other matters. This is, in fact, very untrue. Looking at NASA’s 2015 budget of $17.5 billion, it may seem like a lot, until you realize that the US military budget for 2014 was $581 billion (5). Furthermore, it was estimated that each dollar in NASA’s budget was equivalent to 8 – 10 dollars of economic benefit (6). If an organization can bring about economic value at 10 folds the original budget, it would be logical to continue funding it, if not increasing the funds.
Most people think that the costly downside to funding space exploration is a reason to avoid spending money on sciences and instead spend it on problems here on earth, but such funding for space exploration actually promotes economical as well as scientific benefits. Space exploration is an important expenditure for the high cost because of the potential for numerous benefits such as the possibility to find useful resources to cultivate, space exploration and satellites produce many thousands of jobs in our economy, and it creates and discovers newer and better technologies through research and development.
Space exploration is very beneficial to humankind because it creates new technologies, it brings different countries together, and gives people a better understanding of our Earth.
Why should we go into space? What is the justification for spending all the effort and money on getting a few lumps of moon rock? Aren’t there better causes here on Earth?”- Stephen Hawking. Space is the everlasting, ever growing place where we happen to reside. From the beginning of intelligent life here on Earth, we have wanted to learn.
