The first basic issue is the sexual morality of prostitution. Scott asserts that sex work is not wrong if it involves consenting adults. In addition, she argues that sex work should be seen as a form of livelihood like any other source of income. As a sex worker, Scott speaks from her experience and for her co-sex workers. She wants protections that will enable them to continue their sex work without fear of the police so they can be able to report abuses to the authorities. Having this bias is not wrong because it opened my mind to the world of sex workers who see their job as a legitimate occupation. Welch indicates that prostitution is wrong because it can contribute to sex trafficking, whereas Scott underscores that sex work is moral when it involves consenting workers.
What were the major moral/ethical issues related to these topics? The major ethical issues are the sexual morality of prostitution and its legalization. On the one hand, prostitution can be considered as moral if it happens between consenting adults and prostitutes are not harassed or abused in any way. Also, prostitutes want their work to be legalized so they can report abuses to the authorities and follow legal responsibilities. On the other hand, others see prostitution as immoral as it can come from sexual trafficking and violate monogamous marriages (MacKinnon & Fiala, 2018). Furthermore, legalizing it can be considered as unnatural to a society that sees sex work as taboo.
