Sex can be a victimless crime if prostitutes sell their bodies of a conscious choice. Most of the times, sex workers become their own victims, and it seems unreasonable to arrest prostitutes. On an aggregated scale, sex might be seen as a way of expressing meaning and significance. It’s a form of communication in the society, expressing emotions and interests, fulfilling some needs and offering affection or therapy for others. People, like sex-addicts, would find prostitution as a solution to their needs or at least they would know it is legal and it could be accessed without legal punishments.
The prostitutes are choosing their private independence to work in the sex industry, but they are not having peaceful enjoyment because their work is considered “immoral” and illegal. To protect these women, there needs to be decriminalization in order to get the workers protection. Constant discusses how the government should be devoted to civic virtue, not solely moral virtue because people disagree on morals; his argument applies to prostitutes. The government should encourage civic virtue for those within the industry and the people buying the sex, instead of declaring the act of prostitution immoral, which could be argued by
Prostitution is one of the most controversial subjects in the United States. There are many pros and cons to this subject. First, Prostitution shouldn’t be a crime because it is a victimless crime. In no way is the prostitute committing a crime on society, of course you could argue that the spreading of diseases could be a crime. But the fact that it could happen during regular intercourse should completely nullify that argument in favor of legalizing.
I think it is also heightening the playground for serial killers an other sociopaths to take out their frustrations and urges on innocent women. Another problem I find with illegal prostitution is that Pimps protect their hookers from the law, and from other pimps. If there was no law against it, then pimps would not exist, nor would they control the actions and moneys of their "employees" with violence or any other coercion. Prostitution arrests is rampid and have been proven to cause long-term increases in crime and drug abuse in society. What we need is a sensible solution to these problems like allowing specific places where prostitution and soliciting are designated and can be in a controlled and safer environment.
This would make it a more supervised practice, so it wouldn’t spread AIDS and herpes and other diseases. The prostitutes could be tested just like they are tested in places where it is legal, such as Las Vegas. The cold hard fact is that by putting a restriction on the solicitation of sex the government essentially is putting a restriction on ones personal freedoms. A state of being, which many Americans expect. Not only that, the United States is known for and based upon the idea of its individual freedoms for each citizen, yet in some forms, it still ceases to exist.
The act of prostitution is legal and illegal depending on the country or even the culture. In countries where it is seen as illegal, prostitutes usually get fined or either little to maximum jail time for its crime and some get even get penalized with death. In countries or cultures where it is considered legal, there are usually rules and regulations given by their government officials to make sure that the local prostitutes practice safe sex in order to prevent the spread of Sexually Transmitted Diseases. The workers get general check ups to ensure that they pose no threat to customers which brings me to my first
I know that prostitution is somewhat not a good working field, but for some people, it is the easy way to take care of their family and/or men and women have the right to make their own decision on being a prostitution. In addition, legalizing prostitution I say will help the government and people who choose to work in that particular field will give them the support and the protection they deserve instead of being looked at as a criminal for something that they are doing to make ends meet. No matter the choices some people make as a prostitute, they are human beings and they should be treated with respect and have protection from the government. Though the choices they make is not what people recommend, prostitutes have the right to make their own decision no matter what the case maybe we the people should support including the
Since what they are doing isn’t legal, the prostitutes obviously would hesitate in calling the police, therefore resulting in even worse situations. On the other hand, if it is regulated the government can have a system of protection towards the women that prohibits mistreatment, which decreases the rates of violence among them. Also, if the sex industry does expand, not only will it have safer precautions, but also more benefits for the women and the
Max Shellenbergar PHL 202: Critical Thinking Professor Turner 1 December 2017 Decriminalization of Prostitution We all believe that we have the right to our own bodies, however if we need protection shouldn’t it be the government's duty to help us protect our bodies and create the best possible environment for the business person and the consumer. Prostitution is what is known as a consensual crime. This means that prostitution is directly a victimless crime, however there have been reports of prostitutes suffering from abuse of their consumer. The acts of battery are not a victimless crime. However, due to its current illegal state prostitutes are unable to seek help from local officials.
Though he seems to have positive end results to the issue, the immoral act of prostitution still is part of the solution. As proven before, legal prostitution could lead to an excess of prostitutes that could ruin the appearance of our country, it does not control ones animal-like impulses, but merely lets them run wild, it uses sex as a drug that could lead to an increase of sex ?junkies?, the crime rate could possible increase, rather than decrease, and the spread of STD?s will not be effected positively. The best way to fix the issue of prostitution is to continue fighting it, till eventually the message gets across that prostitution is wrong, and does not lead to a profitable life financially, or morally.
