I am passionate about becoming a social worker as I seek to help those in positions of vulnerability, oppression, and marginalization. Since I was young I have noticed injustice around me and have wanted to help in some way. When I began college I knew nothing about social work, but after attending a majors fair and doing personal research I found a degree that fit my desire to help others. Since beginning the social work program at Texas State I have grown in my passion to be a change agent in peoples lives and to be an advocate for those who go unheard. As a future social worker, I am excited about having the opportunity to help clients discover and utilize their strengths, as well as provide them with resources, counseling, and education to further aid them in improving their lives. I am interested in this because I care deeply about others and want to make a positive impact on the world. Going forward I plan to peruse a Master’s of Social Work, and then become a medical social worker in a hospital setting. I have limited experience working in the medical field, but I believe this is an area I will enjoy working in and one in which I can apply social work skills and knowledge to assist patients. I believe my readiness to learn and my passion for the work are strengths I will take with me. I also have developed communication, organization, and time management skills throughout my time in college and I believe these skills are additional strengths that will be beneficial in field. Although I feel my education at Texas State has provided me with ample knowledge on social work theory, I am inexperienced when it comes to applying this knowledge. I hope to use field as a time to practice my education and to begin learning real life social work
