After the assigned readings, my understanding of social policy is very broad. Social policy has various meanings and contributions to the social work profession. It’s the foundation that appears to drive practice. It also examines and improves the lives of individuals in our society. Social policy is used to address social welfare, social well-being and social injustice. In relation to, social work’s generalist practice addresses both private concerns and public problems for multi-level client systems. Generalist practice, is grounded in social work values and ethics, which seeks to support diversity and social and economic justice with emphasis on populations at risk.

Social workers have an obligation in certain dilemmas to articulate the values, principles and standards the codes of ethics set forth. There might be a time, a social worker has an established time to meet with a client and during that time another client is trying to cause harm to themselves. Resorting one’s focus at macro-, mezzo- and micro-level. With understanding each level, one must analyze the effects on their clientele. Is the policy set forth as a direct response to a specific need or problem such as poverty or does it affect society as a whole when it comes to living conditions such as healthcare. In chapter 2, each level was defined by group and how it’s effected. Macro-level involves the broad laws, regulations or guidelines that provide the basic framework for the provision of services and benefits ( Popple, Leighninger, 2015). These are typical federal regulations that are based on monetary benefits and economic growth. Whereas, mezzo-level is a more intermediate scale that’s an indirect response to macro-level policies that tends to focus on institutions or smaller groups. Its gives a set of procedures and regulations to the broad laws set by the Marco-level policies. Then, there’s the micro-level which engages individuals and families to solve
