In a society of judgement everywhere you walk and go, you are careful to not be seen as the outcast or the one who grabs the most attention, in most cases. The norm that I broke was cutting people in line. The normal behavior for this would to be to stand in line and wait your turn. If you want something, you are going to have to wait in that long line whether you like it or not. It is appropriate to behavior to be patient and wait in lines because it is a first come, first serve basis, and it is only fair to wait in the order that you came in the line to start with. Some examples where people stand in extreme lines for things include: standing in line to receive the newest and latest edition of the iPhone at the Apple Stores, waiting in 20-30 …show more content…

No, I don’t believe some norms are easier to break than others because breaking any norm would be going against what society believes and that is very hard to overcome. Yes, I believe it is easier for some people to break particular norms because they might have been raised to not be shy in public or to express themselves freely, which I clearly wasn’t taught either. This assignment teaches us how much power society holds as a whole to determine was it shameful and what is accepted. In class, we discussed how there were Mores, Folkways, and Taboos. For example, a person living in country where it is legal and okay to marry 12 year old little girls may seem okay for them in that country, but in America, it is considered a Taboo (pedophile). Relating to my experiment, if I was raised to not have to wait to get what I want, then it would seem acceptable for me to cut in front of people without even having to ask in the first place.
