There are many different things that influence our behavior from internal influences to social norms. Social norms are explicit rules that govern how we behave in our society. Social norms influence our behavior more than any of us realize, but we all notice when a norm has been broken. Breaking a social norm is not an easy task and often leads us feeling uncomfortable whether we broke the norm ourselves or witnessed someone else breaking it. Sometimes however, you just have to break a norm to see what happens our professor gave us an assignment that is really easy, but also difficult to do because we have to break a norm in from of people. We had two choices, choice number one, facing people while standing in an elevator, and the other choice Clarice and I decided that we were going to do our assignment on Hialeah campus on a Friday morning. The building from Hialeah campus has four floors an it gets really busy when students get out of class to go their next class. We first, when to the elevator and practice when it was not busy, we analyzed where we were going to stand when people come the elevator one of us was going to be in the corner and the other one in from of the door facing the people. I decided to go first, we both got out of the elevator in the first floor, we waited for people to star coming to the elevator. Two girls come to wait for the elevator. I told Clarice to get phone ready that we were going with these two girls, we waited also for the elevator, the elevator come the doors open Clarice enter the elevator first pretending she was texting she when to the corner with the Social norms are the implicit or explicit rules a group has for the acceptable behaviors, values, and beliefs of its members. Implicit social norms are introduced to us at a very early age, and exert a powerful influence on our behavior into adulthood. Our culture is ruled by social norms. In many situations, people 's perception of these norms have a big influence on their behavior. Implicit social norms are not openly stated, but found out when disobeyed. Implicit rules are rules we conform to as a society, and generally these rules make living together more comfortable. Social norms are important because they define the nature of a group, clarify relationships among members, and express values. They are also important because they create cohesion within the society, and members of that society are very aware when such norms are violated.
