College is a place to get a higher education that also prepares you for the real world, but not all the students are just there for the education. There are 176,00 student-athletes in 346 division I schools in the United States. Division I college sports is the most popular division in college sports with the highest level of athletic competition. Division I sports alone brings in twelve billion dollars a year alone, but devoted student-athletes only get an education that they care little for. Giving student-athletes a small piece of the profit could help benefit them and their family. ("Should athletes be paid to play?" 2016) Most college athletes have the same ambition, to become a professional athlete. To become a professional athlete in most sports you must attend one to three years of college first. There also good points in why college athletes shouldn’t be paid those being, they are still kids they will have financial irresponsibility, they may not go to class, unfair compensation, and some student- athletes and money may not mix well. Even though some athletes will benefit greatly with the money earned some may not so humble with this money, i.e. bad headlines news, and irresponsible behavior from the athletes. Some athletes may feel that know they are getting paid to play then they don’t need the free education. A free education is the main drawing point to athletic scholarships and deserves some recognition, when money may over shadow it. Next, is how to compensate all the student-athletes that is a problem that will never get a right answer.
