In the 21st century most people are educated on the seemingly never ending risks of smoking, however they continue to do it anyways. They ignore the facts that are presented on commercials, billboards, social media, news articles, and pretty much any other place you can think of. These people choose to ignore all of the ads reaching out to them in order to continue to smoke worry free. Because of these poor choices, the smokers put themselves at risk for countless diseases and cancers, waste thousands of dollars a year on cigarettes, and put others around them in jeopardy of developing similar health issues by breathing in secondhand smoke (Smoking). Due to these consequences, smoking should be banned. When smoking a cigarette, you’re basically letting the world know you don’t care about your health. Every cigarette you smoke contains over 4,000 compounds, some of them being carcinogenic, and a large amount of them being toxic to our …show more content…

Recent studies have shown a direct relationship between decreased bone density and smoking. Due to this decreasing bone density, smokers are at a higher risk of osteoporosis, a diseases where the bones become brittle and easy to break (Health Effects of Smoking). In addition to the cancers and osteoporosis that can result from smoking, smoking can severely impact your cardiovascular health. While smoking atherosclerosis, accumulation of fatty substances, occurs in the arteries. This is the main contributor to smoking-related deaths. Smoking also plays a big role in contributing to the development of coronary heart disease, causes your levels of HDL (good cholesterol) to drop, increases the risk of developing an aortic aneurysm, stroke, and more.
