Congratulations you have made it to your senior year of high school also your final year of high school and you’re ready to go off to college and begin your journey down the path to success. As you are preparing for college you realize how expensive it can really be. You pay for all sorts of things such as paying for tuition, the cost to attend, and paying to live on campus and if you can really afford all of it. Then, you begin to wander and ask yourself. Should college be free? This question has been asked by many high school graduates and parents for the past few years and this is a question that deserves to have an easy and clear yes or no answer. Having the money to go to college is what a lot of high school graduates and parents are concerned about. This was done by passing the Morrill Act of 1862. The purpose of this act was to enable land-grant colleges to be created by states on federal lands so that higher education can become available to those of upper, middle, and lower class. During this time many students who graduated from high school were able to go to college without having to pay for any tuition. This was actually possible to do since not that many students attended college at that time, but as years went by college enrollment rapidly increased and that is what led many colleges to charge money on tuition. Many people believe that going to college should be free without having to pay for tuition. Most of today’s jobs are all in technology and medical and health science which mainly requires four years of school.
