I agree that the primary role of policing is crime control, traffic control, and maintaining public order. Nevertheless it has evolved. Police officers provide a wide range of services to the public. The public is unable to resolve matters themselves; so they expect the police to protect their life, their property and maintain order. This is their responsibility to citizens. The police are expected to resolve the matter right then, because they are always available. The public cherish their liberty and freedom. They do not want anyone violating their rights, and their quality of life to feel safe. They desire liberty and order. Consequently, police officers role have become more important than just punishing people who violate the rules and norms governing society. Also, they must have a relationship with the people in the community they serve, in order to effectively perform their …show more content…

Furthermore, laws are often changing; new laws are transpiring, criminal acts are being defined, and limitations and being placed on police authority, by legislatives. Therefore, officers have inherited new duties, such as “protection and transportation of domestic violence victims and the safety and welfare of children. In addition to prevent and control conduct widely recognized as threatening to life and property; to aid individuals who are in danger of physical harm; to protect constitutional guarantees; to facilitate the movement of people and vehicles; to assist those who cannot care for themselves; to resolve conflict; to identify problems that have the potential to become more serious; and to create and maintain a feeling of security in the community” (Corder, 2016).
