Developing the self & Spirit model can help impact students and how they perform in a classroom and as a learner. This can have meaning when focusing on learning experiences that can develop the inner mind. Having this model can help students work well in a learning environment that is not threatening. Their participation matters and the effect is appreciated. However, there are struggles that can cause barriers for students who have learning needs. African American and Hispanic students struggle more often than most students and that is because engagement and motivation are being lacked. African American and Hispanic students fear challenges that reflect on new ideas. They lack confidence. The students need to focus on learning through physical, logical, social and spiritual that can reflect to the mind. Instead this is being avoided and that is a problem. African American and Hispanic students need to feel more valued. To do this and make this happen, students need to learn through their own personal experiences by being engaged by the resources, tools, material, empowered educators, and learning about the things they are interested in. Goal: Come up with a new educational strategy that encourages interaction between teacher and student.
Objective two: Developing a method that allows schools to make more of an effort toward student of color so they can have a chance to be successful academically. African American and Hispanic students should not be asking if whether or not they are good enough for the school, instead they should be asking if the school is good enough for them? In addition, blacks and Latinos have been getting further behind whites and Asian Americans when it comes to earning bachelor’s degrees (Chiles, 2017, para. 2). Teachers are to attract students as a result that approaches academic success. Teachers must make an effort to understand the students better and focus on their educational needs. This would be a great start to making these changes happen. Learning can have a growing role and this is something that needs to be done in a classroom. There are many practices out there that should help learners work on building knowledge with how they define things that interests them
