When selecting a self-administered consequence to increase a desired behavior it is best to select a small, easy-to deliverer a consequence that is easily to be delivered (Cooper, Heron, Heward, 2007). I have been working on a diet plan recently and now I would like to increase my desired behavior by using self administering. I will use self administering with increasing my exercise through walking 2 miles a day. I will keep track daily by using the app RunKeeper. RunKeeper also allows you to post to Facebook every time you run or walk. This will also help me with accountability because it says the distance walk and the time it took to complete the 2 mile. If I complete the two mile I have ask for my boyfriend to help. If I complete the 2 mile walk he gives me a great job speech and $5 towards new clothes or shoes. …show more content…
Bootleg reinforcement could interfere with my progress. My boyfriend and I have an agreement that I will not purchase any new clothes or shoes during the month. I will be given my daily reward of $5 towards the clothes or shoes of my choice when the month is over. This will also allow me to save extra money because I will not be allowed to go out shopping for this reward unless I meet my daily walking requirements. If I receive 25 days out of 30 day calendar days then I get $125. I’m also allowed to use my own personal money because I have met my personal performance award for the month. If I do not reach the 25 day goal then the money I have earned rolls over to the next 30 day cycle and the cycle starts

Smith’s (U.S. poet laureate) father passed, she believed that therapy would help heal her heartache. Years after Smith’s therapy sessions, she wrote “Savior Machine.” She clarifies at a common read at Southeastern Louisiana University, that it is “a poem about feeling freed to look at my life in a clear-eyed way” (Smith). It is a very informing article in which you can learn about the current dimensions of applied behavior analysis. The seven dimensions mentioned are: applied, behavioral, analytic, technological, conceptually systematic, effective, and generality.
The core principles of Applied Behavior Analysis were seen in several of this weeks required readings, appearing in all or multiple sources. Their definitions varied in each reading, all providing more clarification upon the previous. The first term, applied, refers to the "commitment to affecting improvements" in the field. (Cooper 16) Baer, Wolf and Risley said that whether or not something is applied is determined "by the interest which society shows in the problems being studied." (Baer 92) Both sets of authors emphasize that importance of the practitioner taking ownership in dictating how important it is to change the designated behavior. My fitness pal has been successfully in providing feedback for users to keep track of their calorie intake and fitness level. The app is very beneficial in behavior change for the user to record his or her food intake consumed and achieve weight loss. The app is definitely recommended for users who prefer to consume healthy foods and do exercise regularly to enhance a healthy lifestyle. A few years ago, my friend suffers from the cardiovascular disease and has tried several diets to help lose weight, but did not achieve a better outcome. She wanted to consult a nutritionist who can give tips on meal planning and exercising. She told her nutritionist that is ready to take 30-day workout challenge. During the action phase, she started participating in an exercise program while using the app. She does regularly exercise at least 3-4 times a week and keep track to see how many calories burned. After doing a 30-day workout, my friend (user) has lost ten pounds, which made her feel confident and energized. The app has motivated her to make smart healthy foods and continue fitness journey
In my Behavioral Analysis class this semester, we were required to read several research articles detailing various studies conducted within the field of behavior analysis. As this is my major field of interest, I thought it both wise and prudent to share two of the more fascinating studies on my website. Behavior analysis is most commonly associated amongst the general public with rats and a laboratory setting. Pavlov’s conditioning and his dog salivating at the sound of a bell or rats being trained to press levers for food reinforcers most frequently come to mind when asked to give an example of behavior analysis’s capabilities. The field, however, is also extremely capable of creating lasting and effective treatments for people with developmental disorders and addiction.
The first systematic study regarding operant conditioning was taken place in the 1800’s by the Psychologist, Thorndike. Thorndike formally defined operant conditioning as a type of learning that is controlled by the consequences of an organism’s behavior. However according to lecture, operant conditioning can be simply thought as performing an action in order to receive a reward. Operant conditioning can be useful when trying to deal with procrastination, increase efficacy of teaching, or to improve motivation. Therefore, operant conditioning can be used as a behavioral modification program to devise a more specific weight loss program to increase the roommate’s chances of making it on the football team. The form of a behavior is what is observed. The function of a behavior is less easily identified. Functional Behavior Analysis (FBA) can be defined as the analysis of the function of behavior. During this program, participants will be trying to lose 2-10% of their body weight in 6-months’ time. By losing a little weight, they will see that they can achieve weight loss, and will continue to try and lose weight. The reinforcement construct refers to rewards or punishments someone gets for doing something. By going to every meeting, participants will be rewarded by small prizes. This will reward them for coming, and they will be more likely to return. Fact sheets, brochures, and a series of print materials will be used to teach the participants and motivate them to participate. By completing this program that has been based on the Social Cognitive Theory, participants will lose weight and learn about how to eat a healthy diet in their daily lives.
The psychologist B. F Skinner believed that “changes in behavior are the result of an individual’s response to events (stimuli) that occur in the environment” (All About Operant Conditioning, 2006, Para 2). The following paper will discuss a learning situation in which an exercise routine is thought. The paper will evaluate the application of instrumental conditioning to this learning situation. As part of the analysis the learning situation will be described, the paper will compare and contrast the concepts of positive and negative reinforcement as related to learning situation, and explain the role of reward and punishment in learning an exercise routine. Finally, the paper will explain which form of instrumental conditioning would be most effective in teaching someone an exercise routine. Instrumental conditioning is the learning procedure that believes that “the organism must act in a certain way before it is reinforced; that is, reinforcement is contingent on the organism’s behavior” (Hergenhahn & Olson, 2005, pg 23). The major contributors of Instrumental conditioning are B.F Skinner, John Watson, and Edward Thorndike. These three theorists believed that “learning is the result of the application of consequences; that is, learners begin to connect certain responses with certain stimuli” (Huitt & Hummel, 1997, Para 1). In society the behaviors individuals manifest are learned behaviors which are learned through some form of conditioning.
Due to the development of ICT, adaptive learning, which takes into account individual learners’ needs, is changing. Learners’ learning styles are one of the most significant characteristics. They can be categorized according to a number of criteria which are based on cognitive and emotional components of personality. Their combination leads to the countless individual variants of real learning methods which – to a certain degree – can be influenced by the current e-learning resources. When the e-learning resources can react to the learners’ input characteristics or their learning results, they become adaptive e-learning systems (AES) or intelligent AES.
Undoubtedly, the claim that all human behaviour can be explained by evolutionary psychology in some way is an ambitious one, but that is perhaps because evolutionary psychology attempts an ambitious goal: to unify not only psychological disciplines, but also the anthropological, sociological and biological. With this in mind, it is easier to see how the foregoing conclusion might be possible, probable even. At the very least, it is undeniable that evolutionary psychology provides a foundation with which to explore and interpret human behaviour even in spite of those subjects with which it says little about.
Punishment is a process through which “the consequence of a response decreases the likelihood that the response will recur” (Gray, 2002, pp.115). Further, punishment can be seen as an effort to decrease the response rate to stimuli by either removing a desired stimulus or presenting one which is undesired (Gray, 2002). Recent studies suggest that punishment can be an effective method of behaviour modification. However, as reported in Lerman and Vorndran (2002), there are a number of limitations to punishment as an intervention and subsequent negative side effects. For this reason, certain principles upon which the implementation of a successful punishment is dependent must be adhered to. In accordance to these findings, this essay will contend that whilst there are alternative means to operant conditioning, certain punishment techniques have been proven to be effectual and in some aspects advantageous.
