Recommended: Effect of school uniform on learning

In the past few decades school has shifted its focus from education to fashion. Students are judged upon their shoes or jeans instead of what they know. Uniforms in the public education system could be a nice plan, not only is it cost effective, also it provides the students an opportunity to focus on their studies and not have to be compelled to worry about what to wear tomorrow. Also the crime or violence rate normally drops in schools that have a uniform policy, and people that don't belong on the schools property are noticed quicker and easier. Private schools have already taken in this concept, as well as some schools in England and Australia. Early morning or late evening fights over what's allowed to be worn to school may come to an end if uniforms are issued within the public school system. The price of uniforms as compared to the newest fashion statement is ridiculous. For the cost of a household appliance, 1 or 2 outfits could be bought. The way the children are dressed is mainly to them much more inportant than the grades they get. The students who don’t have the cash to shop for all the latest clothes tend to not attend school as much as possible due to the fact that they get bullied or just flat out feel that they don’t fit in. the children that come from lower class level backgrounds are the children out there selling drugs and committing the crimes, however the money made goes to shop for the newest designer jeans, just so they're “ cool” in school. Uniforms can be bought at nearly any clothing store. Costs may vary from $5-$7 for shirts, $10 for shorts and $7 for jumpers. In fact used clothes are cheaper. Majority of parents only get 2 to 5 outfits for a school year. Hand-me-down uniforms are used more than new... ... middle of paper ... ...ings. The most famous and talked about one cause by a student(s) was the one at Columbine High School. On April 20, 1999 2 students murdered 12 students and 1 teacher, injured 27 additional students. One of the boys hid a firearm under a large trench coat while entering the school. With uniforms this might have been prevented, because of the fact that long coats wouldn't have been prohibited to be worn within the school. Should uniforms only be worn by the students? How about the teachers and faculty? If the children are compelled to wear uniforms, then faculty and staff ought to along with the students of the school. The problem with the present dress codes iare that the principles aren't doing their jobs by enforcing the rules. That is why I belive schools in the U.S.A should have a uniform policy. Do you feel the same or do you feel no uniforms are whats best?
