“There's a great metaphor that one of my doctors uses: If a fish is swimming in a dirty tank and it gets sick, do you take it to the vet and amputate the fin? No, you clean the water. So, I cleaned up my system. By eating organic raw greens, nuts and healthy fats, I am flooding my body with enzymes, vitamins and oxygen.”(Kriss Carr). Fats are a concentrated source of energy. Fats are needed in a diet for healthy skin and normal growth. Fats also carry certain vitamins to wherever they are needed in the body. They are a reserved supply of energy. Saturated fat on the other hand is a fat that consist of triglycerides, they contain only saturated fatty acids (carbon items that are fully saturated with hydrogen atoms). Wikipedia states that “the consumption of saturated fats is generally considered a risk factor for dyslipidemia, which in turns a risk factor for some types of cardiovascular disease. There are strong, consistent, and graded relationships between saturated fat intake, blood cholesterol levels, and the mass occurrence of cardiovascular disease” (p.5). In other words, saturated fats are not the direct cause of heart disease but it causes all these minor problems that leads to the main issue. This shows how such a small detail can leave such a big imprint on a person’s life. In the World Heart Federation’s view “comparisons between a diet low in saturated fats with plenty of fresh fruit and vegetables and the typical diet of someone living in the developed world show that in the former there is a 73 % reduction in the risk of new major cardiac events” (p.2). Basically, the World Health Federation is saying that the less saturated fats you digest you can decrease your risk of having a cardiovascular disease by just eating healthier than you were before. Fit Day argues that you can bring up you bad blood cholesterol by eating foods that contain plenty of saturated fats, foods that have high levels of saturated fats make you more likely to develop a heart disease, one of the main causes of death in the United States (p.2).
