Interview Assignment
N.F. is a 58-year-old Caucasian male of Irish descent who is diagnosed with the undifferentiated form of schizophrenia. He has been living with his diagnosis after he was diagnosed at the age of 17. N.F. believes that his illness has affected his life by keeping things to himself as a result of paranoia that he experiences, occasionally. He has been in a relationship with his girlfriend, who he has been dating for more than 20 years. Currently, N.F. lives in an apartment in Suffolk County in New York.
His goals are to graduate from college to become a chef, then owning his organic restaurant. Although N.F. says that it will not affect his goals, he says that his biggest fear is returning to the hospital because of something was able to comprehend my directions of the assessment. Even though I offered N.F. the opportunity to ask me questions prior to the start of the assessment tool, N.F. stated to me that he had no questions to ask. Accordingly, I assumed that I did not need to answer any questions. When I began administering the Occupational Questionnaire, N.F. completed the activity column first before completing the columns composing of the questions. Since there are 48 rows and 5 columns to complete, N.F. took his time completing the questionnaire with minimal guidance, even though I was watching him the entire time (Smith et al., 1986).
From my perspective, it did not appear to me that N.F. experienced frustration with completing the assessment tool, based from his facial expressions. I trusted myself that the Occupational Questionnaire would benefit N.F. because based on the interview, N.F. engages in many occupations each day, yet he expressed to me that he would rather engage in certain occupations over other occupations, such as socializing with his friends, versus cleaning his room, and finding a balance to do all of
