Should same sex marriage be legal over the United States? Well yes, why you ask because people have the right to marry whomever they want regardless of same sex marriage or opposite sex marriage, which if two people love each other they spend their life with each other, or marry each other. Although same sex marriage is considered as a disgrace throughout the United States. Same sex marriage can be a benefit towards society, which can boost self-esteem. Also, homosexual people have the same rights as any other citizen(s). This paper will talk about same sex marriage pro and cons, and how it shaped the society today. For Example, Society has become more and more open towards homosexual people, or same sex marriage. Homosexual people are people who are attracted to the same sex, which in this case people are open of their sexually. Many people say that same sex marriage should be banned, because The Bible states Marriage should be between a man and a woman, which will start an argument towards same sex marriage, but some people may not believe in The Bible, because of freedom of religion. Even though to most people gay marriage should be illegal and should stay in its current state, I believe we need to change the world for future generations. We feared that different religions were going to clash, but now all of the religions coexist. White people had Black and Hispanic slaves, but we overcame the odds and now White men, Black men, and Hispanic men can be equals. If it is possible to overcome such fierce obstacles then we can overcome the boundary obstructing gay marriages and straight marriages alike. Gay marriage should be legalized for these reasons. Evolution will always continue and at any given point in time, something will occur that we will not like in this world, but we can overcome this. Gay marriage is a controversial issue that people have been fighting for years and it has finally come to the surface. We should take charge of it.
With the economic support, the adoption rates rising, and the equality same-sex couples deserve, gay marriage deserves to be legalized throughout the nation and the world. Rejecting the right of marriage to these couples hurts them and the way they are able to live their lives. Everyone deserves marriage and life equality despite the person they love because we have equality rights based on us as an individual, not on who we decide to love.
The constitutional right of gay marriage is a hot topic for debate in the United States. Currently, 37 states have legal gay marriage, while 13 states have banned gay marriage. The two essays, "What’s Wrong with Gay Marriage?" by Katha Pollitt and "Gay "Marriage": Societal Suicide" by Charles Colson provide a compare and contrast view of why gay marriage should be legal or not. Pollitt argues that gay marriage is a constitutional human right and that it should be legal, while Colson believes that gay marriage is sacrilegious act that should not be legal in the United States and that “it provides a backdrop for broken families and increases crime rates” (Colson, pg535). Both authors provide examples to support their thesis. Katha Pollitt provides more relevant data to support that gay marriage is a constitutional right and should be enacted as law in our entire country, she has a true libertarian mindset.
For the majority of human history marriage was always thought to be between one man and one woman. That was, until last year when the Supreme Court passed a law, legalizing gay marriage. Many people still do not support marriage, but people’s changing ideas of what defines a marriage made the legalization of gay marriage happen. This issue can also be applied to the Functional Analysis theory. Those with this perspective may believe marriage should only be between a man and woman, because each brings different skills to the home. A gay marriage and home could be viewed as unstable, because without a man in the home it may be difficult to do extensive heavy lifting and without a woman in the home it may be difficult to do housework like sewing. Functional Analysis may believe that gay marriage threatens the balance in the home which will in turn affect other aspects of life like childcare, cooking, housekeeping, etc. Sociologist who believes in the Conflict Theory perspective may think that gay marriage developed as a result of several people protesting to lawmakers that gay marriage should be legalized. Before gay marriage was legalized, marriage was between only a man and woman simply because there was no other definition of marriage. Men always had more power over women, but gay marriage allows everyone regardless of gender to get
The institution of marriage is typically known as a religious rite. When religious people think of marriage they think of God and the church. Traditionally, people also think of one man and one woman. Same-sex marriage will change this philosophy. Religious leaders across the world agree gay marriage will alter marriage forever. Same-sex marriage and homosexuality are topics religious leaders of the world connect and agree on. A variety of religions, such as Buddhists, Protestants, Catholics, Mormons, Jews, and Muslims, have...
... gay marriage should not be as controversial of a topic then it is. Even though there are religious thoughts about gay marriage and homosexuality, people are getting that information from books that were written millions of years ago and they are not even sure of who wrote them. Even though people are ultimately afraid of the unknown and change, both, which are included in legalizing gay marriage. I believe that people should brush up on their knowledge of homosexuality, gay marriage, and what gay marriage would do to our society before they make create an opinion about the matter; which could ultimately affect the opinion of people around them. I also believe that love is love no matter what way you think of it, we are all humans who just want the same rights for everyone. Imagine if you were in a gay persons shoes, would you think the same way about gay marriage?
Society is created with both homosexual and heterosexual individuals. Previously when certain laws discriminated against others, such as law for women's rights to vote, these laws were changed. Changing the traditions of the country does not mean that it will lead to the legalization of other extreme issues. Each ...
Sociology paper Gay marriage has been a hot topic in the news for many years and seems to be making progress within the past decade. I chose to write about LGBT equality because this is a current movement being seen in today’s society. Very similar to the civil rights movement or the women’s right movement, there are many opinions and perspectives on the topic weather it is a human right or an abomination. So in this essay several sociological perspective will be takin regarding this topic. Functionalist believe in the greater good for the whole society.
Love Has No Gender Everyone wants happiness and to be loved by someone unconditionally. No matter the gender or race of the person, everyone just wants to be loved. Many people are against men dating men or women dating women. There are those people who say religion is the reason they are against it. These people strongly believe that gay marriage is the world’s biggest sin.
Over the last years the topic of same-sex marriage has been of great importance to our society. The idea of the same gender being lawfully married is disturbing to a group of people but in the recent years the number of supporters has increased. The cases that argue for the legalization of same-sex marriage are focusing on the relationship of the individuals and do not see anything in same-sex marriage that could harm our society as a whole. The article “How the President go to ‘I Do’ on Same-Sex Marriage,” published by Joe Becker in April 2014, explains how Barack Obama started saying that he was undecided about the subject matter but is now leaning toward the legalization of same-sex marriage. The subject matter takes a lot of analyzing of what pros and cons are to come from the legalization of same-sex marriage. Same-sex marriage is a global argument that deals with unifying two individuals of the same gender under the law. The main reason that supporters give for justifying same-sex marriage is that it is for the same reason as straight people, to show love and commitment to each other. Furthermore, the argument of same-sex marriage is difficult to generalize because of the multiple factors that need to be taken in consideration when making any decision regarding this topic. Although Becker does have true premises, he lacks clarity in his terms which make his argument be false and invalid.
Gay and lesbian unions have been for a long time a subject that no one liked to discuss. For the last few decades, gays and lesbians have come out and expressed their sexuality preferences. Many believe that same sex marriage should not be legalized because it's against the moral. It's against the definition of marriage, which is considered as the union of a man and a woman as a husband and wife. Same sex marriage should be legalized because the way society views the union of lesbian and gays can a change. Another reason why same sex marriage should be legalized is that children that are issued from a gay or lesbian couple will be loved and raised in a family that is legally recognized under the law. Lesbians and gays also deserve to have the same rights as heterosexuals.
Gay marriage should be legalized. Gay people should have the same rights as everyone else. They are being discriminated against. In this county we have always fought for equality. This issue is no different. Minorities, women, gay people and everyone else should be treated equally in the eyes of the law. Church and state are separate in this country. Shouldn’t gay people have the right to marry also? What about interracial marriage? Should that be legalized either? Everyone deserves equality; gay marriage is in no way hurting anyone. Gay people are no different than we are, we are all human beings. Who we chose to love should be no one else’s business but our own. Denying these marriages is a form of minority discrimination. “America was founded on the concept that the majority should rule, but the rights of minorities should be protected. It is the main reason we have a Bill of Rights as well as anti-slavery and equal protection amendments” (Pappas, Stephanie). Denying marriage to a homosexual couple is no different than denying marriage to Hispanic or black couples.
Did you know that equivalent sex marriages are legal in some states now? Well, despite the fact that it has been shown that equivalent sex marriages can be fatal, people still continue to marry someone of the same sex simply for their satisfaction. This paper will classify how same sex marriages can be difficult for others to respect. The difference between heterosexual marriages and equivalent sex marriages legal benefits. What type of payment they can have from heterosexual marriages and what state its legal in and how can it benefit their freedom and religious. For an example, state assemblies have been deeply involved in the public how to describe marriage and whether the official acknowledgement of marriage should be extended to same sex couples.
In recent years, same-sex marriage has become a more controversial topic on whether it’s right or wrong. People should not feel coerced to agree with something they believe is wrong; clearly, same-sex marriage is immoral and unnatural. Many complications come with same-sex marriages including financial pressures, social pressures, moral pressures, and health risks.
The recognition of same-sex marriage is a political, social, and religious issue. Because of this same-sex marriage is a very controversial topic. Legal acknowledgement of same sex marriage is commonly referred to as marriage equality. Many advocates of marriage equality argue that laws restricting marriage to only heterosexuals discriminate against homosexuals. On the other hand advocates against same-sex marriage argue that it would undo long-standing traditions and change the meaning of marriage in a damaging manor. In this essay I will be arguing for same-sex marriage. The arguments mentioned as well as others will be discusses throughout this paper.
The legality of gay marriage is a hot topic for many reasons. Traditionally marriage has been known as a legal bond between a man and a woman. Times have changed since those days. More and more people are coming out of the closet everyday. There are more gay people today than there ever have been and that number is only increasing. Marriage is a way for two people to show their commitment towards each other, so it should not matter what their gender or sexual orientation is.
