Some think same sex marriage is right; however, others disagree. People in America have been fighting over same sex marriage for many years. However, same sex marriage is wrong in several ways. One way it is wrong is because there is now a law stating that same sex marriage is legal. Not only is gay marriage wrong, it is not appealing to the eye.
I do not agree that kids being raised by two of the same couples will turn out to be gay. I’m not saying that every child will become gay, but they will be affected someway. In the other hand, the children do have a disadvantage. Kids that have a mother and a father are going notice the difference. That doesn’t mean that the children are worthless, although they might be treated differently.
Today, in the 21st century, gay couples face marriage discrimination from religions, mostly from Christianity. Several arguments against gay marriage has risen in the recent years. The most common religious argument against same-sex marriage revolves around scripture, which many faith communities believe came directly from the mouth of God, and they interpret scripture to forbid the practice of homosexuality, and by extension, same-sex marriage (Baker). Homosexuality itself is not a sin because it is just an attraction to one’s own gender but, to the faith communities, the practice of homosexuality makes it a sin. Do not have sexual relations with a man as one does with a woman; that is detestable (New International Version Bible, Leviticus 18:22).
Going beyond just legalizing same-sex marriage everywhere, the debate is interesting and both sides have valid points. It goes from being against God’s will, to gay couple raising children, and the contradictions of openings the doors to the unknown relationships of others. Also not letting two individuals get married to whom they desire is taking ones civil rights away. Lastly, standing up for themselves and wanting to get married is huge because coming out is probably the hardest thing for them. Against God’s Will: When it comes to same sex marriage and religion conversations tend to spark up since apparently in the bible it states that, “If a man lies with a male as with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination; they shall surely be put to death; their blood is upon them” (Leviticus 20:13).
Another false assumption regarding same sex marriages is that the institution of marriage is for procreation. If so, why are infertile individuals allowed to marry? Why are childless couples allowed to remain married? The false assumption that the institution of marriage ensures the continuation of the species is hard to visualize with the current population of the world. The notion of institution of marriage being threatened by same-sex marriages is an additional false assumption by the straight community.
Marriage is an important part of life since the Biblical times. For most it normally consists of the union of a man and a woman, but for gays and lesbians, it is the union of two men and two women. Legalizing gay marriage is an issue that has been contested for many reasons. We can contend that gay marriage is a bad idea for the sake of procreation, because the consequences far outweigh the benefits, or we can concede that the emotional stigma that is attached to it will make it difficult for children to *****Therefore it is a difficult issue for society to accept. and a fight for acceptance and freedom to practice gay marriage openly First of all, there are many reasons that are given to refute why gay and lesbian marriages should be a part of our society.
Some may argue in the bible it states it is wrong to be involved in a gay marriage. If two people love each other why can they not get married? There are so many arguments that can be brought up to justify marriage and for couples to receive benefits like any other couple. In this society understand why some people like myself I feel like people have the right to be with who they want to be with and just because you don’t believe in it doesn’t make it bad. A gay person is no diffe... ... middle of paper ... ...y should someone be denied the right to get married just because they are gay?
An Le English 101 Professor Munoz May 4 2014 Injustice Involving Same-sex Partnerships Same-sex marriage has been a controversial problem throughout history. In the United States, there are 17 states where same-sex marriage is legalized and 33 states where it is not legalized. Even though there is a growth in number of people who supports legal recognition to same-sex marriage, many still oppose it because they consider same-sex marriage is unnatural. In specific, religious groups believe same-sex marriage is the cutting edge of sexual revolution, and such act offends God. As the result, same-sex couples are often denied from their very fundamental right and are discriminated by people around them.
However, it is not a misdemeanor to love somebody of the same gender but it can rigorously damage many aspects of life. In addition, same-sex marriages also can affect those who are raised by them as children. It was exposed that children raised by homosexual couples did worse than the offspring of heterosexual couples in nine of thirteen intellectual and social categories. When children are adopted they do not get a choice in whether their parents are gay or straight. For this reason, their sexual orientation may be distorted due to the parents they are adopted to.
Girls who are raised apart from their fathers are at higher risk for early sexual activity. Children without a mother are deprived of emotional security and don’t have the advice that mothers provide. Allowing gay couples to wed could weaken marriage. Traditional marriage is already threatened with high divorce rates and gay marriage is against many religion beliefs. Many argue that homosexuality is immoral and unnatural.
