3 Strengths
Determination -- I am a determined person. When I want to follow my desire of achieving my goal, I have no hesitation. I see many obstacles along the path, but determination is the key to success. I have seen many of my classmates changed their major from Accounting to other business related field due to the hardships in Accounting classes. I as well gone through the same experiences as others, but I am determined to stay on track of my goal to be a CPA. Through Audit class (Acctg431), we are provided with access through audit materials in Roger CPA Review for free of charge. By attending class to learn and getting access to additional materials of Roger CPA, SDSU gives me extra motive to take this opportunity to pass an audit section

All requires critical thinking, as well as tremendous efforts. SDSU allows me to improve every skills needed to be success, ranging from being innovative to acquiring analytical skill. For example, Cost Management class allowed me to be innovative. During ERPSim game, it requires every team to innovate unique ideas of what strategy to use, which product mix to sell, and how to diversify ourselves from other group competitors. By benchmarking our team result to competitors, evaluating market demand, and analyzing and interpreting complex quantitative information, it allowed me and my team to succeed in ranking top 3 in the class. Moreover, SDSU gave me opportunities outside the classroom to enhance my analytical skill by participating in PwC case competition, ALFPA case competition, and SAS internal audit committee. Through case competitions and internal audit committee, I and my team are required to assess the impact of the risks and develop a solution to the problems. In fact, my internship at KPMG (Thailand) as a Risk Advisory Intern allowed me explore the real business world problem. I used to believe that I am no better than others. By acknowledging that some people around me had received many opportunity in leadership positions and internships, it makes me feel behind from others. I want to be like them, but I don’t believe that I have that ability. SDSU allowed me to do internship at KPMG (Thailand) effectively. I was convinced that I wouldn’t be able to do the assigned work like other interns. To be Risk Advisory Intern, it requires more than basic accounting knowledge and analytical skill. Despite an underestimation of myself, I was able to apply the materials from Accounting Information Systems (Acctg333) class effectively while assisting my mentor to conduct risk assessment. Although SDSU allows me to prove to myself that I am not inferior to others, but an underestimation of myself is still my weakness. I tend to compare myself to others, but that is the motive for me to strive for better. At SDSU, I and my team are in the process of forming a student organization, ASCEND. These strengths and weaknesses were mainly discovered through the papers that we have written. I have many strengths when I’m writing papers and at the same time, I have many weaknesses. In my papers, I have noticed that one of my biggest strengths is how articulate I am. The papers that have been written by myself show that I structured sentences to present ideas in different ways. It is not straightforward and boring when ideas are presented. I like to keep the reader hooked on my paper. In order to keep up with this strength, I like to read articles. The articles I read are typically the ones that present new ideas or start arguments. This is one of my strengths that I am very proud
My top strength is Individualization. To me, this strength means the ability to figure people out and understand the true uniqueness of others. With this strength, I am able to make things run smoothly and, at the same time, able to involve everyone in a group. The next strength I have is strategic, which enables me to find alternative ways to deal with problems. Therefore, I am also able to make things run smoothly and according to plan. In addition to these two strengths, my third strength is competitive which measures how successful I am compared against others. This is great because it helps me to endure and work hard in order to make it to the top. My fourth strength is restorative which is a talent that helps me to deal with any problems that may arise and ensure that things continue going according to plan. This strength means that I can endure and overcome any adversity that comes my way. My last strength is achiever. This is a strength that helps me to work hard and always be productive. Being an achiever maintains my ability to always keep going and to constantly feel the need to be productive.
This strength, in particular, influenced my decision to pursue social work as a career because cases will often be complex and I know that changes do not occur overnight and positive results only occur within time. I mastered the strength of being patient because growing up with an older sibling often requires you to learn patience. One aspect I realized was I don’t get frustrated easily and that is because I can be a patient person. The second strength I possess is being empathetic for example when a friend or family member shares something that may not be going to good in their life I like to pretend I am in their shoes, I like to provide empowerment and also be relatable, often times when one of my friends is upset over a situation I tend to get upset as well. I like to look at events through a sociological lens so I can better understand the situation. The last strength I possess is dedication, I feel this will influence my decision to pursue social work because I put my heart and soul into every aspect of my life, for example, I am quite dedicated to my studies, in High School I worked extremely hard to make it into the top ten of my graduating class and by being dedicated to my school work I ended up being number five. Everyone has strengths and weaknesses. As Roth states in Strengths Finder 2.0, we as a present day world tend to focus on and try to overcome our weaknesses rather that building up our strengths. Personal strengths and weaknesses determine how an individual will perform in their careers and lives. Clifton and Nelson (2010), defines strengths as “things that one does well” (p. 42). Strengths are traits of a person’s performance or views that result in personal gratification and reward. Effective leaders should strive to develop their personal strengths. Strengths can be drawn from things that an individual currently excels at or those from the past. Weaknesses on the other hand, are things that result in lessened productivity. Good leaders are able to identify both strengths and weaknesses and utilize them to become more effective at their profession (Clifton & Nelson, 2010). According Hodges and Clifton (2004) “it’s best to focus on strengths rather than on weaknesses and changing the therapeutic paradigm to focus on helping others to excel in a few areas rather than becoming average in many” (p. 258). Understanding ones strengths and weaknesses can be stressful. However, strength comes from honesty, meaning it is important to identify your weakness. Again, it is important to know where your strength lies and how capable and competent you are.

As I stated earlier, loyalty is one of my top values, and I believe that if I am a loyal leader many people will trust me and develop their leadership attributes.
